Quite some differing opinions here about the game, damn. It’s not making it easier now, haha.
We go from “slog” to “brilliant”. Then again, opinions on 16 were wildly varying too. Some absolutely loved it and I got tired of the bullet sponge combat way too quickly and just don’t find it anything special at all when it comes to gameplay overall. Interesting story and characters, yes, music too, graphics mixed bag and really no reason to go exploring.
I stayed away from any detailed reviews and videos of FF7R all these years but I was really expecting some great locations especially. Guess I’ll have to find out for myself sometime this year when I get it, no reason at all to get it now with the many games I’m juggling between.
Yeah that’s what I did. I tried the demo, I thought it wasn’t bad but also not anything as good as it was made out to be, decided to get it anyway but not expecting to be blown away.
I did a few weeks ago. But that’s just the prologue, right? I liked how it played, combat felt good to me but it’s mostly one straight line to the rather challenging first boss, no side content. But I did like that demo.
Have you played the original FF7? If yes remember, this is the Midgar section stretched to ten times its length, so lots of side content. Your enjoyment might depend on if you think this is a good thing or not.
Yep. I played it with my brother up to a certain point. I think we got into some kind of office and if I recall correctly…Shinra? Never finished it though. But are the locations mostly factory and stuff?
To me this is just enormously indulgent. It’s like saying ‘you like that kind of sweet ey? Here’s a ton of it, enjoy’. No. It’s nostalgia hype platform hype indulgence.
That doesn’t mean it’s bad or worthless, at all, but it is utterly uninteresting to me. More power if you like it but I don’t think this kind of exercise should be free from such criticism because of nostalgia. Hell, I love Halo and remakes don’t excite me that much at all.
I played the original FF 7 back during the PS generation and dropped it in like 30 minutes. Going up the train steps, I had a whopping FIVE random battles and I was like, yeah im done. Turned the game off and gave it back to my friend.
Remake though is freaking great and im loving it for the most part and if not for the remake(s) of FF VII, I can easily guarantee that I would have never ever experienced it. Up to Chapter 8 on my replay of the game. It’s so damn good.
Wall city looks awesome! They really nailed it!
Edit: just did the dance secrion shame they didn’t change the prompt colours to align with the Xbox buttons.
I just checked Howlongtobeat and holy shit, the main story already isn’t very short but if you go for everything it’s crazy how much more time you’ll spend. Did you do all the side content too? Once I start with that game I dont want to tire myself out doing utterly boring side quests, they should at least be worth the time.
I have done everything thus far on normal difficulty and at the start of chapter 8. My play time is under 10 hours thus far but when you’re in menus, the clock stops until you start playing the game again. I can’t find my rundown of my original playthrough but im not expecting the game to take me more than 30 hours to do basically everything.
You can skip the side quests if you want to. They’re not required or mandatory. I do them because there’s not many (26 in the entire game), are usually short and I simply want the XP and Gil.
Rebirth on the other hand is a massive game. Looking it up, I completed it in 132 hours and did nearly everything in the game. A few mini games like Queen’s Blood (which I hated), I skipped. You can search my posts from early 2024 in the currently playing thread as I posted a few times about Rebirth.
I will only bother with side quests that are worth doing. So maybe it they have an interesting enough story or are just fun to do. In 16 I didn’t have any side quests I enjoyed and actually just stopped bothering with them, lol.
Did you find it a bit challenging? Because honestly, I was like…this is your first boss and it’s this challenging? I had like 15 potions pre fight and used up almost all of them. Maybe it’s just me and I was impatient or actually playing it too much like a button masher. Lol.
Hah, there was so many things to learn and the boss kept getting new mechanics yeah. For a first tutorial boss it was not easy but I learnt to be more patient
I’m on Chapter 9 (chapter 8 took me long and I lost an hour due to my own screw up) and at 15 hours. So it will probably go past 30 hours but no way is it taking me 86 hours to get through the game at about 100% completion. Just no way unless you’re really taking your time with everything. At most, I’ll say 50 hours. 30 hours was based on how far along I was at the 10 hour mark but the last chapter took me 5+ hours alone. Once im done (hopefully by Tuesday night), I will post my total hours so you know. I will say that whatever it is, if you play on easy/story difficulty, it would probably be a lot less because battles would be easier and thus faster to complete.
Two playthroughs are necessary for the 1000 (hard difficulty doesn’t unlock until you’ve already beaten the game) so that’s probably why the Completionist number is double.
