If Xbox is yet to receive a particular update such as the GDK update you speak of, the PlayStation version shouldn’t have it either.
They should be released together…
Same thing happened with pentiment didn’t it, after the outcry online Josh Sawyer said it was an oversight that Xbox didn’t have the update yet for the higher frame mode, and then Xbox got it.
Versions need to be aligned… And also PS5 games shouldn’t get dualsense controller features until Xbox gets its own haptics controller.
The GDK is literally the dev environment for Xbox/PC and has nothing to do with the PlayStation build, so every other assumption you’ve made is wrong. The ignorance most have when it comes to game development and hardware optimization (this applies directly to folks at DF too), coupled with the obsession some have with these comparison wars is why I hate these topics being discussed without context.
The state of the media and the ragebaiting tribalism they further foment can be seen as a direct link; a media seeking to inform gamers would have made those points abundantly clear in these types of comparisons/discussions. I doubt these individuals have any desire to learn more about the actual underpinnings here… because if they did that would provide an objective view, and that’s not something they’re interested in.
To further inform, the entire code base environment that SoT was built in on Xbox and PC is being replaced - from the old SDK to Xbox’s GDK which is the heavily modified environment (an “upgrade” if you will) that allows the additional hardware functions to be taken advantage of (mesh shaders, sfs, GPU, etc.)
Edit: fixed some missing words where I must have had a short circuit
You know what, I apologize for stoking the flames here, you’re right.
Personally I don’t care either way, I’m a PC/mobile gamer, and I’m happy to play a game such as destiny on my deck at 30fps, graphics don’t matter to me personally.
Gameplay > all else and Xbox wins by default because of the better controller
I think it’s pretty clear MS is going to make sure there will be no questions about MS purposely making “worse versions” of games for the PS5. This is something that specifically came up in the argument against the purchase of ABK. If MS plans on buying more studios or publishers they are going to point to these games as examples to regulators/in court. If anything this is more proof they are heading that direction.
Also everyone knows damn well if any of these games performed worse on PS5 the narrative would be that MS is making the PS5 versions of the games worse on purpose to make the PS5 look bad.
Totally expecting to see the same tantrums… oh wait that only applies to when a game is perceived to perform worse on Xbox do people jump to ignorant conclusions…
I’ve hated these conversations for years because of how DF and others weaponized them and fomented console wars during the 2010s, but especially because unless the game is ported by the same developer, any hardware optimization/differences are almost impossible to judge because the different dev/environment comes into play far more in these situations - but DF always pretend it’s strictly down to the hardware or dev environment… instead of recognizing that not every dev and not every studio is equal (that’s all without discussing different design philosophies, etc.)
Tl;dr - groups like DF make sweeping generalizations and often baseless conclusions that fail to grasp how porting works (and overwhelmingly obvious as the years go by, ultimately games development altogether).
Lol, I posted it without comment because I was hoping to see people tie themselves into knots being mad about some shadows, but not other shadows, but also be happy that every other aspect is better on Xbox.
Not sure if it has been mentionned here, but it seems like the PS5 Closed Beta build was indeed a newer version of the game. It’s confirmed by the devs in the new Sea of Thieves upadate video.
At 2:10
PS5 players had access to new WIP build of the game with the latest improvements.
So the slightly “better” shadows and draw distance will probably be on par on Xbox after it gets updated? It would be similar to Pentiment then, that had a 120hz update planned for Xbox too, it’s just that PS5 was first. And I guess in that case only HFR is the one that is ever so slightly “superior” on PS5?
Could be yes. The PS5 got devs working on more optimizations I guess. I assumed it will be improved on Xbox as well in the future, as suggested by the term “improvements”. We’ll see.
It seems it was true after all. About the performance/resolution toggle not working on XSX.
But there is a lot more to see here. XSX outshines PS5 in other areas, so it should be interesting once BGS fixes that toggle.
That being said, this is not good. I just don’t get how these things happen. I could swear they upped the amount of people for QA, or was that solely for Starfield?
I am a bit I guess…worried about the upcoming Starfield graphic and performance modes. Or maybe I shouldn’t, perhaps Starfield indeed has the biggest QA team.
I’m excited in that case. Man, imagine if it had launched like that. But hey, better late than never!
But as for Fallout 4, I just didn’t expect this. Easily expected Xbox to outshine PS5 in all regards, especially since BGS always clearly favored Xbox.
