Turn off V-Sync!

All the consoles are running great in that video frame rate wise and turning off V-Sync makes the quality mode go up to 60+. Holy shit!!! I do think that Pearl Abyss should lock the frame rates on consoles to 60fps so it keeps the frame pacing leveled and doesn’t have the frame rate fluctuate like it is. But very impressive for a very heavy CPU bound game.

Haven’t watched yet, busy with Witcher 3 now, lol. But 60fps in quality mode? I might go for quality mode over balanced after all then whenever I eventually get the game. Or is balanced the more steady one?

It’s a very good looking game with RT and is also quite CPU intensive too, especially for a team that had no previous experience with the Series consoles it’s very impressive work.

You look at this and then RE9 which didn’t have RT at all and makes you think about why there wasn’t even an option for RT on the base consoles since the overhead was there. With the way the game was promoted on PS5 Pro (first game with PSSR2 e.t.c.) I have a feeling that maybe there was a deal with Sony to have RT exclusively on the Pro (like RE7 still being a PSVR exclusive), looking at the frame-rate SX runs for example and various benchmarks on base console equivalent PC GPUs RT should have been there as an option at least (even on a low setting). I guess we may know more about this weird and shady situation when the next leak happens like we learned about the parity clause because nobody will otherwise dare to dig up stuff on a subject like this one…it will be interesting to see if Code Veronica (or what the next RE will be) will offer a RT option.

Maybe Asha should be more aggressive with pursuing better ports from big 3rd party publishers/games from now on because SX is a very capable machine that for some reason some publishers/teams like Capcom continue to do the bare minimum in terms of porting…the Pragmata demo runs worse on SX so what is the deal with RE Engine and the Series consoles? - hell this is the first generation that we are seeing the more powerful hardware not having de facto the best versions.

If you have a VRR enabled display there is no reason to choose balanced over quality IMO.

True that. Because quality mode is the best visually, with the highest raytracing available, right? This is damn nice. With VRR we probably even shouldn’t notice any fluctuating framerate, correct?

Never! :stuck_out_tongue:

Admittedly I do eventually need to upgrade my TV, practically everything tears on it and I’m really sensitive to it so have V-Sync enabled on everything…

Time to update I guess.

Edit: Also it never gets old that I type Assass to get these games to come up on search.

DLSS still way ahead.

Despite the odd way to present the tech, DLSS is still a beast.

Yep it still surprises me that if I’m getting some frame rate drops I can turn it on (assuming the game had it off by default) or change it from Quality to Performance, and suddenly it’s rock solid 60fps with no noticeable quality hit.

Maybe my eyes are going now I’ve reached my 40s, but damn it’s impressive

The comparison I want to see is FSR4 as that’s what Pssr is based on.

Summary shamelessly taken from GAF

In response to concerns about reduced coverage, the team clarifies that they are not actively avoiding Xbox content. Instead, they cite several reasons for the disparity (19:50):

  • Code Availability: Xbox code is often harder to obtain from publishers compared to PlayStation code (22:42).

  • Market Trends: PlayStation currently has a higher install base and market interest, making it the priority for reaching the largest portion of their audience (24:42, 28:09).

  • Focus and Time: Creating comprehensive comparisons for all platforms takes significant time, leading them to focus on the platform with the most relevance or availability first (25:31, 28:33).

Additionally, the team notes that with the launch of the PS5 Pro, they are focusing on covering the most distinct technical experiences (26:11, 27:11)

Makes sense that the PS5 Pro would be the most interesting for them to cover as the most performant machine, and the PS5 review is as good as a Series X review for most games. Series S will always be around when Tom Morgan feels like getting some console war jabs in.

Reading back through this thread, it’s amazing how far DF stock & credibility have fallen, though tbf some posters did call DF out way back in 2000

All I hear is don’t bother with DF if you want to see Xbox related content. But hey maybe this will mean they stop their console warring?

I am sure they will find a way to squeeze in mediocre Series S ports from time to time in their (as they even openly admit now) Playstation focused channel so yeah I don’t think console warring is over. Their credibility IS (officially now) over but I don’t think console war is going anywhere. To be honest their “analysis” videos were lackluster at best for years now and they have shown their bias many many times so not much of value is lost for Xbox owners. :man_shrugging:

I think as long as they refuse to cover Xbox at the same time as Playstation. They’ll likely be losing viewers, as most of their fandom came together for those comparisons.

Absolutely. When they feel they are lacking on clicks, they will do a series S video lacking some grass blades or bad rock textures to call it out on holding graphics back.

They’re chasing likes & subs its clear to see. I’ve never rated them & that goes back to the Eurogamer days. They’re just graphics tarts
