Games Analysis |OT| Time To Argue About Pixels And Frames!

Going by the title of the video I expected a much bigger difference lighting wise between the Series X version and the PC version w/ RTGI.

He does this a few times in the video - he first says he is “disappointed” by something and then proceeds to explain that what he expected is not exactly feasible or a good idea, he really does whatever he can to add negative spins into the video. Dude was more excited for a totally uninterested tech-wise remake of TLoU and a PS5 port of Ragnarok (where he finally saw the light of cross-gen! until then he shitted on Xbox for two years straight) than everything Xbox had to offer this generation (except maybe HFR). You can tell by the tone of his voice how excited he is for what Playground accomplished here. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah IIRC even a few years ago aka this generation he made a similar comment again on twitter.

By first mentioning how underwhelmed he was to down play the whole thing.

Not the first or only one in gaming media with that sentiment. I get it, hating MS is so easy, but the thinking the industry will be better with less competition, when we saw what complete dominance of Sony was gonna look like (… the PS3) it’s past the point to think some of those people care. I genuinely believe that they don’t give a shit how the industry looks like as long as MS is not in it.

That’s because forza horizon has been using surfel based Global illumination for the last two games I think, it’s not as good as the raytraced GI but still very competent and less taxing.

John’s hate of Xbox has only got worse, if anything. The issue with John is that he says what he thinks people like to hear or is cool, not what he really believes himself

For a man who rants on about Physical, it’s amazing how he now plays more on PC these days

But has he? Whenever I see him talking about Xbox, it definitely doesn’t seem like it. But when he talks about PlayStation, Nintendo or Retro, he’s super hyped and excited.

Not surprised whatsoever. Guess he hasn’t changed at all.

Agreed.

Like I said. A lot of what John says is done just for what he thinks people like or what’s trending or being cool… I even question how much of a real Sega or Saturn fan John is , myself

But, I also don’t like people using the victim card for Xbox. A lot of what people use to bash Xbox over the last 2 years is down to Xbox mistakes & their terrible handling of PR & not just a biased press

No Black Friday deals, terrible console sales, raising GamePass by 50%, ‘This is Xbox’, gutting Turn 10 Etc, ect is all on Xbox. When you score own goals, it’s so easy for the opposition to take advantage

All of the above shouldn’t have any influence on how a channel about “tech” should approach Xbox games. Xbox not doing any Black Friday deals shouldn’t make Hellblade 2 or Forza Horizon 6 any less impressive visually, hell even liking a game or not also shouldn’t be of any relevance on how a game looks, performs or what technologies it has implemented. Game tech for the most part is facts and then comes preference/opinion which should also be consistent to have any weight, Linneman’s personal preference on what platform likes to play on shouldn’t make Forza Horizon 6 running at 60fps/having RT on Series S any less impressive. :man_shrugging:

Sadly, it does have an influence & people need to be grown up about it & accept it; DF makes money from YouTube & in today’s world that means it’s all about likes & subscribers.. That means DF will panda to the PlayStation & Nintendo fanbase because it’s so much bigger.

Sadly, that’s the world we live in now. All that said, it’s not all that different from the biased press for Sony in the PS1 days & their constant bashing of the Sega Saturn, but just like with Xbox, a lot of that was of SEGA’s own making

… Covering Xbox properly is not gonna make them lose money. They are supposed to be “academic” about it (their own words about themselves, apparently). And no, you shouldn’t be ‘grown up’ and accept it, you can ignore it sure, but accept it? So you just shouldn’t criticize anything? Mind you this thing isn’t new and isn’t a reaction to the horrible stuff Xbox did, it’s been in the games media industry since the inception of Xbox, those dudes worship Playstation and Nintendo, it’s not a reaction to Microsoft doing specifically bad things, they just don’t want anyone to compete with their blue and red boxes, they say this shit outright, I’m not making it up. Most of these dudes will pretend to be angry about Xbox layoffs but in the same breath tell you it would be better if Xbox with their 20k employees all stopped existing. Do not make excuses for them

One has to be grown up about it. Xbox sales have been poor of late, the brand taking a battering & Sony & Nintendo have sold way more consoles & have the bigger fan base & too many people seem to think that PC = Xbox when most people I know who game on PC hate Windows, Xbox & all are for Steam.

So DF know they have to appeal to the biggest fanbase they have say what they think PlayStation & Nintendo lot like to here

And I know it’s not a new thing, The Sega Saturn was bashed for all it was worth by the PS loving media & I speak as someone who liked the Saturn over the PS1 (I did have both) That doesn’t cover up the fact that SEGA made so many bad mistakes & had poor PR. PR is one area Xbox is dismal at, let’s face it.

Looks fabulous, I can’t wait

I wasn’t the biggest fan of this game (I know I’m in the minority here), but I saw this today, and I have to say, this looks mighty good!

I’m more of a tourist when it comes to Assassins Creed, so i tend to play most game close to the end and or half way and just stop. I can’t say I remember more than hiding in a bush somewhere, while sneaking into a house. So I don’t think I thought the game was good.

I love the series overall, but didn’t like some of the gameplay elements in Black Flag. This remake looks set to fix basically everything I didn’t prefer about the original game

One thing this video does convey though is that the original game is still strikingly good looking, even today!
