Great review. This game is an all-time great and a reminder of a time when Xbox first-party games pointed the way for the rest of the industry. ![]()
Was it? I did the entire thing in like 4 hours, from starting the game to having the video done, because I only got a code mid-day yesterday
Lighting is showing its age, even with the remake graphics, but it still looks great, still plays great and it’s still awesome to play.
I enjoyed it. ![]()
Sorry I was just saying I’m surprised, cuz I’m never sure if they’re good or not and with it being so quick I figured it might be kind of bad, so thank you!
Bought ultimate but never played it or the original, so I got a free code for reloaded and I’ve never played Gears. Looking forward to experiencing it for the first time!
You’ll be experiencing it at it’s a best with a new wave of players coming over from other platforms, so perfect timing.
I need to start waiting 20 years to play all games ![]()

This is really good & really appreciate Dolby vision support in this. Would like to see more of the same for Gears 2 remaster
Still my favourite in the original trilogy. I like the more gritty/horror look of the game. Insane is the way to play this game though.
Finished the campaign two days ago and had a great time, I’ve played the game so many times that I literally know all combat scenarios inside out so Insane solo wasn’t that bad (well except freakin’ Raam).
About the game first of all I thought that the game looks really awesome…which is very impressive considering it’s a 10 years old game, The Coalition did an amazing job with both the technical and art direction aspects of the visuals. They captured the essence of the original release in terms of art, the darker tone and atmosphere IMO which is not an easy thing to do as we’ve seen countless remakes failing to do the original game’s visuals/art justice (Demon’s Souls, Halo CE Anniversary, Shadow of the Colossus e.t.c.).
Gameplay wise I love the linear level design approach that actually benefits the pacing keeping the engagement at high levels of fun plus I think the smaller scope of the game overall and the up close and personal style of the destroyed city alleys makes Gears 1 unique even when compared to the rest of the series. Also all the weapons feel and sound freakin’ powerful, gritty and brutal…it’s crazy how many things Epic and Cliffy B nailed with the first game in the series. Classic game and classic series at this point that still plays awesome and is still a lot of fun.
Can’t wait to see E-Day! ![]()
As a general rule I’m one and done with games and don’t replay old stuff. But this might be an exception. A combination of it has been so long since I played it and I really enjoy the franchise. Which reminds me, Gears 4 is the only one I haven’t played so maybe best to run through that before revisiting games I’ve already beat. Will see.
Finisheda coop insane campaign last night; was actually the first coop playthrough for me but I had beaten the game more times than I can remember so it was pretty smooth sailing over here. RAAM in coop is super easy, especially since I had told my buddy to keep a fully loaded torque bow as well, which makes this fight a walk in the park!
I was on PC and he was on PS5 and while we encountered a few bugs, it was pretty smooth overall I’d say. I got some weird 1fps drops sometimes (like 180fps to 1fps) so I lowered lighting by 1 as well as turned off motion blur and for some reason that fixed my issues.
The original game is still gorgeous to this day, but this upgrade is still welcome and I felt like reflections and lighting effects were much better as well as character models and texturing. For the price of admission, this is a no brainer!
Yeah a fully loaded torque bow is a must in the Raam fight, makes the fight much easier.
I’ve beaten the game many times at both solo and co-op (online and even via LAN on the 360) and it’s great fun in both for sure. On the technical side I only encountered some audio issues on the SX, audio mixing is weird in general and I had the audio freak out sometimes on reloading checkpoints which is fixed by pausing the game and then continue again for some reason. Other than that game looked beautiful and run very smoothly…the new reflections/SSR and tweaked lighting plus the much better IQ when compared to the BC UE makes a noticeable difference.
