As someone that had no plans of actually playing this game, I have no problem for the delay. I do wonder if CoD comes out in November next year as well though?
RIP to people who bought a PS5 Pro just for this game, you got played.
Everyone was expecting that. They should’ve waited instead of giving a random date they couldn’t meet. It’s just putting additional pressure on the team.
Not shocked at all.
Beyond goddamned tired of the wait though. This really shouldn’t have been revealed so early. LMAO at Strauss Zelnick now twice saying it wouldn’t get delayed, then it got delayed a full year and here we are.
Must suck for studios that move their games forward to avoid May launch, only to get chased back again.
Wonder if it ends up drying up big premieres in May-June next year.
Besides that, It gives me 2027 vibes now.
This! Incredibly frustrating.
I recall several studios having moved their big games away from the GTA 6 release date and now here we are, ffs.
I don’t expect Fable for example any earlier than late 2026 but now I guess it can easily move into 2027 assuming GTA actually drops November next year.
Call of Duty is one of the few games that could hold their date against GTAVI and survive.
Probably releasing in October like other MW if the next one is rumored to be the fourth one.
They delayed it last May because they felt it needed a full extra year but they seemed certain enough to slap a date on it. Only to delay it even further for six months.
Tf is going on there?
And just the simple fact that it’s already TWELVE years without a new GTA, downright sad.
I’m a bit more curious if Sony postpones Wolverine or lets another one of their titles be overshadowed by larger games.
Wow that’s a quick delay consider it’s still November 2025. That’s more than a year now right? It feels like another delay is inevitable but we’ll see. At this rate the game might end up a next gen launch title. Good for Xbox and Sony I guess; probably their biggest fear is everyone going out and buying a Series or PS5 console and prolonging last gen another eon again (or at least Sony’s fear, Xbox probably wouldn’t care as evident by how long they supported the Xbox One themselves).
Yeah, I had really hoped we’d left announcing release dates for games way too early behind in the grave of E3. Of course that hope has been trampled other times before now, but still. GTA especially is a game that could’ve just done a “we’re working on it; you’ll get it when you get it.” trailer. Then yeeted off to the ether until like 6 - 9 months before release when they KNOW what the game is about done and they’re working on polish to make it have the best launch possible.
R* always delays at least twice.
There’s at least even odds that it delays to 2027.
Maybe I should start running bets on if we’ll get a next gen upgrade for GTA V (again, again) first or GTA VI ![]()
COD probably could be fine being COD, but 100% they push it up to October. It’s a really good slot for flagships anyway.
The bigger concern for Xbox & Microsoft is their entire 25th anniversary also falling in November. I didn’t check for a release date, but I assumed that’s what campaign evolved was targeting. Too bad Sony has the exclusive marketing rights or Xbox could really do something special in tandem with GTA VI to give Xbox consoles one last big “hoorah!” (or if they do follow my hopium and launch next gen early for the 25th anniversary).
What are you talking about?
November release date - think Geoff will exclude this game from GOTY nomination like Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones? Or will it magically make the cutoff date? ![]()
This was back in 2024 (and I’m seeing now insiders so who knows), but it was confidently shared that Sony paid for the marketing rights for GTA VI. I heard it on the Xbox Two podcast and usually Jez would refute if it’s outright wrong. Don’t know if anything has changed since especially post 2 delays.
No one has enough money for that.
Ithink that with Jez unless he writes an article, that’s not an opinion, he generally is talking about unconfirmed rumors he could have heard.
