How to set up Xbox Full Screen Experience on your Windows handheld
NOTE: XFSE is slowly rolling out to all Windows handhelds, so it’s possible that the method listed below might not work for you just yet. If it doesn’t, try again in a day or two.
On your handheld, use your finger to swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
Select Settings.
Tap Windows Update.
Check for updates and install updates. You specifically need to select Download & Install on "Windows 11, version 25H2."
Restart your device once the update is done installing. This might take a while.
When your handheld boots up, log in if necessary, and then swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
Select Settings.
Tap Gaming.
Select Full Screen Experience.
Tap the drop-down menu to the right and change it to Xbox.
If you want your handheld to enter Xbox Full Screen Experience on startup, toggle the button next to “Enter full screen experience on startup.”
Now restart your handheld, and it should automatically boot up into the Xbox Full Screen Experience.
With all of these steps taken, you’ll be able to check out Xbox Full Screen Experience on your Windows handheld.
There’s more infos in the article if FSE hasn’t rolled out for your handheld yet. There’s a link for a free open-source program.
Oh cool so you can already use any game launcher. I wonder what that leaves grifters to complain about (if not the Xbox app being bad)? Are internet trolls going to keep pretending that this isn’t objectively fantastic for gaming on the literal biggest gaming platform (that’s not mobile) which services the most users? Even when they can boot into Steam big picture mode?
The author says they used Playnite. That’s just objectively dope. It seems like a lot more open feature than I expected out the gate. And sure it’s not steam OS level, but steam OS level would mean windows just wouldn’t be windows and a lot of games probably wouldn’t be playable like on Steam OS and Linux. I’m super interested to see how third parties, in addition to Xbox, will continue to evolve the Full Screen Experience now too. Like Playnite is open source, and I feel like they’ll really move to take advantage of fulls screen experience.
