Should be interesting. I’m a big fan of Life is Strange 1 and Before the Storm. I actively disliked LIS2 and True Colors was fine but kind of boring. Jury’s still out on Double Exposure since I haven’t beaten it yet. I like Chloe’s character though.
Can’t say this is doing much for me. I think I’m just kinda done with these games. At least this story, that story is finished for all I care. Definitely enjoyed it, Before the Storm too, 2 not so much and I thought True Colors was surprisingly enjoyable too. Didn’t play Double Exposure.
Nah. Let’s see how the other new game by this studio turns out, way more interested in that. If it ever comes to GP, sure I’ll play it but buy it? Doubt it.
I’m intrigued. I’ve only recently gotten into the Life is Strange games. I started with True Colors and have been really enjoying it. Then I jumped into double exposure. I haven’t actually finished either though
(I’m playing true colors with a friend and double exposure I’m working through alone). I never played the original Life is Strange though, so I have no connection to Chloe. Double Exposure feels so recent though (and I JUST bought it on sale), so for me this came out of nowhere. I also only hear about Chloe in the mystifying “my past is dark and profound” way from Max.
The Xbox Wire post is pretty fun. I love that the person writing the article says they were just a huge fan, pushed for a comic at their current job at titan comics when the game came out, and have found themselves working at Square Enix for Life is Strange now. It’s neat to see how the story’s been progressing since the first game. AFAIK until Double Exposure all these games were like one and day and only connected under the premise of having powers and it being a narrative game. Also Co leads is interesting. Aren’t all the others just one character? Hopefully it doesn’t get tedious. I always hate it - even in like books or TV shows - when there’s shifting POVs and just inevitably one character who I like more or whose story I’m more interested in. In my opinion it’s hard to pull it off to a point where every character is equally interesting and I DON’T end up getting pissy when I’m forced to swap from the character I like more and the story I like more to some other stuff I don’t really care that much about. Ugh, especially when they insist on ending on cliffhangers during swaps. That crap doesn’t make me more invested, it just makes me frustrated.
Life is Strange was a lightning in a bottle kind of thing. It’s hard, but they should let go of this franchise.
Yet, this one looks like the conclusion the fans deserve. I hope it’s good.
I understand people wanting them to move on, but they have tried with 2 other games already. They didn’t set the world on fire.
Double Exposure was also 2024, so to me it means they clearly were working on these 2 games at the same time.
It really was a unique game whose appeal is difficult to replicate. I really think so much of it came down to the stellar voice acting which really sold the characters of Max and Chloe, despite the sometimes dorky and inauthentic writing (which in itself was kind of part of the charm). It’s so rooted in these specific characters and performances that you can’t just put the name on another story and have it resonate with people the same way.
You can’t write lines like “Ready for the mosh pit shaka brah” or “That’s a tasty plasma” on purpose. They happen by magic.
Of all the games in the series, 2 is the most pertinent right now, what with all that’s happening with ICE. These games all have their own staying power in one way or the other, and I’m glad we’re getting another one.
