im big sleep on this quakecon now lmao
I do think thatâs a possibility, like someone that is a fan of Fallout and Skyrim might sway for xbox because of that.
What I donât agree is that, even with Starfield already confirmed as exclusive, someone will see this remaster as the light in the end of the tunnel that all Bethesda games will indeed come to playstation and then sway their decision back to it. Thatâs just completely unrealistic, nobody other than xbox fans themselves are even contemplating that this remaster changes anything regarding the Bethesda exclusivity XD
Where did I say that? You are soiling yourself over a remaster of a 25 year old game. If someone is dumb enough to believe that is a indication of bethesda games not being exclusive, despite repeated statements from Phil Spencer on the matter, then that is their problem and its not really any of your concern. MS will take care of MS.
So this is just a straight remaster of Quake 1? Thatâs cool, I have fond memories of attempting to play this game (and sucking at it) on my PC way back in the day.
Itâs more a commentary on strategy.
Iâm not personally tribal. I had a PS2, then a 360, then a PS4, now a Series X, I go with whatever seems better each gen, although I do prefer Xbox overall Iâm not wedded to it.
But I do want to see a competitive industry with all sides firing on all cylinders as this is best for all gamers.
I donât like seeing Xbox make blunders like this. The Bethesda acquisition is a key part of their returning to a truly competitive position where they can push Sony. Giving away potential exclusives is going backwards.
I do curious what they did update in the remake. Guess we will learn today.
The issue is the term âlegacyâ, because when Phil said legacy people assumed he meant things already released like Doom Eternal, ESO or FO76 would continue to get new content for everyone
So if Quake can come to other platforms because of âLegacyâ what about others like Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Doom? Does it just mean old games getting remade/remastered? Does it mean future games in those IPs?
Thatâs the issue, its so vague and can mean many different things
Fair enough. Iâm sure it has been discussed at Microsoft/Bethesda what to do with this remaster. A bit of balance between goodwill and cold business could help Microsoft in the long run regarding this acquisition too.
Weâve seen three Bethesda games this summer:
- A new BGS RPG exclusive to Xbox/PC
- A new Arkane open world walking sim/co-op shooter exclusive to Xbox/PC
- A remaster of a 25 year old shooter, multiplatform
If thatâs how Microsoft wants to treat âlegacyâ content for BGS Iâm all for it. Especially if that rumoured remaster/remake studio for BGS is a thing. It means more content for Game Pass, while being a âgood guyâ in the industry. Win-win.
This is in no way a blunder. Itâs a remaster of a legacy game. It being multiplatform is in no way negative for Xbox as a whole. If it helps drive renewed interest in a dormant IP and then you have an exclusive reboot/new game then itâs only a positive.
Itâs a remaster of a game released on almost every other platform. It is a legacy product ârevitalizedâ as they put it. Not just an old IP that had been multiplatform.
Quake is for everyoneš
š since 1996
ehh not sure about this tbh lol
The Psychonauts 2 thing was also perceived as positive by the larger gaming community, I think?
There are few companies that run the numbers on everything as often as Microsoft does. You can trust them to have looked into what is/isnât worth it for their brand in situations like this. Doesnât mean they always get it right, but in a situation like this there is no negative to putting the remaster everywhere possible. My god, itâs enough with the list wars.
It actually helps explain things to the friggin dummies
New titles will be exclusive. Like Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Redfall, a new Quake, etc
Old legacy titles could be multiplat. Like Quake 1 reboot and possibly other old games we do reboots for that were multiplat back in the day
And like you said, all it may do is respark interest, or create new interest/awareness of these fanchises. Imagine some 8th grader who plays Quake for the first time and ends up really liking it. Then he sees a new one is coming out, watches the trailers gets hyped for it, but sees itâs on a console he doesnât own. âHey mom, dadâŚcan I have an Xbox for christmas / my birthday?â
Not that Quake is enought to sell a console, but it can play in to the cumulative effect along with other exclusive titles. And all this move does is bring more awareness to what that franchise is

Because as theyâve said there is a case by case decision to be made here. They have inherited stuff from Bethesda that will have been planned to be multiplatform. And fundamentally there are so serious business advantages to CERTAIN titles reaching as many gamers as possible. As pointed out if you want to introduce a broad audience to Quake before you make a new or rebooted Quake game then you wouldnât want to restrict the audience who sees the touched up original.
A lot of fuss is made about stuff like this but there isnât really a need. The idiotic hot takes on twitter and youtube are just best ignored.
True. I think Microsoft was looking for the right words regarding this. Iâm sure their marketing and communications departments were scratching their heads over this. ![]()
Anyway, if they ever remaster Fallout 76 I expect it to be on PlayStation consoles.
(khem khem) xbox one reveal (khem khem) xbox live gold price increase
I should have wrote that down. Damn. I should have told everyone to expect the Quake remaster to be on everything, because thatâs what I thought MS would be doing.
It makes too much sense. It doesnât impact the IP being exclusive. Itâs just nostalgia for those who seek it. And itâs a teaser for whatever the new game will be.
