Microsoft-Activision-Blizzard Discussion Thread (Part 1)

It’s not a concern “Take”.

IF, IF, IF there are no exclusives, then I find this deal to be not worth it.

Simple as that. Some people feel the same.

Now if there’s exclusives, then hey alright.

People are disregarding that this is going to affect future acquisitions as well. If MS did pull a fast one and use a bunch of technicalities to keep COD exclusive (which doesn’t benefit them as much as keeping it multiplat) then it will be much harder to get future acquisitions passed

Keeping COD multiplat is the best middle ground and the ultimate win win for MS, they get to keep 95% of Acti-Blizz games exclusive, they get to rake in bank from COD/Overwatch being on Playstation, they get to keep regulators happy and future acquisitions will be smooth sailing

The irony is that some people seriously think that Sony would make GTA6 exclusive and suddenly it is not a problem or concern for regulators, because Sony does not own T2 :joy: But if Microsoft buys T2, Microsoft is obligated to make GTA6 multiplatform otherwise the regulators will complain :joy:

And the logic about COD being exclusive assumes that for some reason Microsoft cannot make COD even time exclusive for 1 or 2 or 3 years, or regulators will riot. But if MS were to make COD exclusive without ATVI deal, it would have been totally fine and not a concern :joy:

Does anyone know if the ftc started examining the Aquisition yet

Imagine a timeline where instead of a straight buyout, MS instead had announced that all ABK games going forward were day 1 GP games and that nearly all of the ABK back catalogue would be GP as well. Imagine MS announced that they were going to be getting access to marketing decisions wrt all ABK franchises including CoD and would work tightly with ABK devs to make the Xbox versions the best versions they can be going forward. MS also announces that they will be getting the revenues for all ABK’s large IP’s like Candy Crush, WoW and CoD, which have continued flowing consistently for well over a decade and with that extra cash on hand Xbox can invest more funds into 1P games and 2P deals going forward.

Functionally speaking, what I outlined above is what we can expect to see happening. Why should we care if it costs $70bil? It ain’t our money and it positions MS to tap into ABK’s revenue streams and use that money to float new investments for us Xbox-only gamers.

Xbox gamers are making out like bandits here.

Sorry I only care about exclusives.

Nothing’s changing my mind on that.

You know damn well I’m talking about 1st party pg2g.

“I only care about games if someone else can’t play them”

Exclusives that couldn’t be played anywhere else worked damn well for Sony for a couple generation didn’t it?

Turned them into the massive powerhouse they are today didn’t it?

1st party, 3rd party, it’s all games. The only thing different between them signing a deal for Dat 1 Activision games and an acquisition is that Xbox gets the rest of their profits too

Sony’s exclusives sell to around 15-20% of their console base. They got big because of huge third party deals and brand loyalty from association with major third party games. Sony’s exclusives did nearly nothing for them until the early 2010’s. Stop trying to twist reality to fit your narratives.

Okay, and how many users do they have?

Sony’s successful 1st party games made them a powerhouse that allowed them to do 3rd party deals.

I ain’t twisting anything.

Killer exclusives that can’t be played anywhere = more people into your ecosystem = more sales/users = more dominate position.

This is so backwards i cant even begin to argue with you.

I’m sorry if me wanting Xbox to use it’s wealth of developers and IP to make exclusives that are only available on Xbox ecosystem/hardware that drives them in droves to subscribe turning them into an unstoppable titan makes me the bad guy.

I was done with this topic when Tavish had to bring me back into this to try to prove his point of view right.

I was basking in the glory of Atlus on Xbox.

@ProgStopper you know you can play games instead of playing Console Tycoon.

It is one thing to say that you think exclusives would be better for their market position. It’s another thing to say you don’t care about games unless they are exclusive.

Maybe I’m not communicating this clearly.

Acti-Blizz only makes me excited IF there’s exclusive games because it strengths Xbox’s ecosystem/market share position.

I don’t give a shit about Acti-Blizz if everything there going to make is going to be available elsewhere because it does nothing for me from my POV.

Done.

End of discussion.

We’re past this.

I was only dragged back into this topic.

Can I go now?
