Microsoft Gaming gets a new CEO as Phil Spencer Announces Retirement and Sarah Bond Leaves Xbox

Phil retiring is very understandable, wasn’t expecting the Sarah part but perhaps she wasn’t cut for whatever they were expecting for the next phase of Xbox, my guess is like someone said she has something already lined up. I will say Aisha will really need to come in very strong the reception for her has not been great and if she comes in with layoffs or similar that could push things back to 2013 levels again.

My thinking is the idea is to get Xbox hardware to become something like the android and Apple phones. If Xbox can transform PCs to basically define how they are built. Xbox is the only real consumer product Microsoft has and that they can use to push and promote their wares, so I will definitely say AI is certain to be a big play in this new Xbox especially with recent things like the Seedance 2.0 and those robots shown at the Chinese festival.

Beyond that I hope and wish them all well.

Also as others have said she probably played elsewhere or on other accounts - it wouldn’t surprise me if when you’re moving into Xbox leadership they give you a special account that’s got better filtering and moderation on, as for example otherwise Phil’s account would probably crash from the number of messages and invites he’s probably sent.

And yes 10k in a month is very good going, I used to struggle to hit anywhere near that during the “achievement GamerScore = Reward points” offers lol, even using easy small games

Jez video. I haven’t remotely finished it so I don’t know if he has any inside information to add. I will say, my favorite bit so far is 36 minutes in when he’s responding to someone calling Activision “the beginning of the end” (he essentially just says that people have always said Xbox is dying even in the 360 era, currently Xbox by itself is one of the biggest businesses in America, and if Activision was consuming Xbox then we wouldn’t see the diverse games portfolio (we wouldn’t see any single player games) getting greenlit and everything would just go into funding live service). I’d be hard pressed to look at where Xbox is currently and say they’re any closer to “death” than they’ve been in any other generation.

10000 is pretty high for one month. She’s put in some serious time and tried a lot of different games. I actually wonder if she took a couple weeks off work to give herself a crash course in what this “video game” thing is all about.

I think she is trying out more other games, hence Borderlands 2 because of one user. That’s why it was the recent one. I do believe if she doesn’t have much gaming sense, she is willing to learn. This is similar to wrestling development. People often say hire indie wrestler instead of train one, but if you go with the latter, you can result a great outcome. Case in point, Oba Femi. Research if you like.

The point is, if a person is willing to learn, then we should lightened up and give her a support. We know the industry is tough, so last thing we need is collapse.

Of course that makes sense unless it’s about ragebait and pushing a narrative.

Lets be honest here. Do people actually think someone in her position is giving out her personal GT to the public “gamer” or not? You know the GT that she would use to play with her family and IRL friends? The one she would use when she isn’t “at work”? Yeah that’s a no with a 99.99% certainty I’d say.

How about making public her “work GT” where she is interacting with internal development teams playing games still in development, games that may be unannounced? Yeah that’s a no too.

How about a GT she might use to interact with external 3rd party developers who might also have unannounced games? Yeah no.

So what we have is a public GT she will play on where customers and the media can interact with her. Using this account is just part of her job and we shouldn’t make any judgements based on it. Heck she can have interns/staff playing games on it and not her or both, who knows.

They hired someone to do that role though: Mena Sato Kato takes Xbox Asia reins after Japan success | Windows Central

I guess i didn’t see it is she both President of Xbox and Microsoft Gaming or just Xbox?

Phil’s old role, head of Microsoft Gaming.

Seems President of Xbox might not exist now, maybe merged into Matt Booty’s new role

ok thanks

Yeah Matt Booty took over Sarah Bond’s role. Microsoft gaming now encompasses Xbox now it seems for better or worse.

Wait, so he’s overseeing content and platform?

That is correct he’s running Xbox now basically

It won’t happen but massive WHAT IF we go back to exclusive?

It’ll make fuck all difference really - unless they broke the contract with PlayStation and made CoD exclusive but then they’d get hit hard in in court.

Everyone’s pretty set in their ways - hence the hybrid Xbox, an attempt to make Xbox the console with everything - the massive library of games available on PC while being accessible, console exclusives like GTA6 and attractive to the new generation who see consoles as a bit of an anachronism in this world of playing what they want where they want.

At most timed exclusives but would that really do anything for them. Like I can see an Elder Scrolls 6 and Forza Horizon 6 working but I just can’t really see it driving hardware.

From former Blizzard/Activision.

This fucking guy man, not saying he is bad overall because he has made some great videos lately regarding the (REDACTED) files and important stuff related to that but what is it with his hot takes on anything related to Xbox? he single handedly made hundred of thousands or millions of people think Halo was about to become an AI game or something, I haven’t watched this and I probably won’t because I’m tired of the hyperbole but I bet this video is even worse, and no I’m not trying to say that there’s no reason to be concerned regarding this hire because obviously there is but let’s just wait and see at least, then again maybe Xbox does need some internet backlash before they do something stupid and actually attempt to implement AI on everything, as 2013 showed, backlash does make them change bad decisions sometimes.

Ok hopefully this person continues with the same amount or even better content from Japan.
