Yes, it was worth it. Not just for the sales but for blowing some of those games up. Forza for example is getting almost to the level of GTA in my opinion. Also, they haven’t really yet released some of the big games, they certainly could make them timed to please some of the rabid fans though I doubt that. we will see if Gears E-day is timed or day and date.
Normal person - great interview Jez. Great work!
Console warrior journo - Dring’s quote.
is he a child? Grow up.
They seem to have limited their talking to all the new site and Jez or windows central seems to be the only one they talking to these days.
Here is my new 4d chess take. Asha comes in and knows this change can be spun in one of two ways. Keep everyone calm, nothing is changing. Or fire everyone up, I’m going to right this ship. She asks Phil, what customers will follow this news and what are the mad at Xbox about? The core audience who are also online and they are upset about console sales. With that info Asha includes a bullet point in her onboarding speech that emphasizes console. Fire that group up. Easy win.
It’s not about reverting back, the timing was not good IMO and the messaging was even worse. At a time where games were still skipping Xbox. Great if you own a PS5 though and want to play Halo, but if you’re on Xbox and want to play Spider Man…well get a PS5 or PC.
This isn’t much of an issue a year or two into next gen when Xbox owners have access to Steam, MS is always too early to the party and more often than not it doesn’t work out for them.
All of them are…
I mean why Jez is copping strays, as it’s not new and it happens to people who are associated with covering Xbox in general.
Xbox killed his Cat or something I dunno….
Dring needs to just stick with his analyzing sales numbers shtick and stop trying to be a Twitter personality. He’s so bad at it.
I never understood why many insider or analyst have zero tolerance and at times dare I say potty mouth. It’s like they are professional at report, but when one strike with hardly insult words, they react like Cartman from South Park.
there was a relief I felt when the play anywhere strategy really kicked in. It felt like Xbox was going their separate way. No longer following Sonys lead. No longer fighting it out with Sony. It was really refreshing. I don’t have a PlayStation right now so I don’t care what they do or how they run their business.
The wars suck up all the air in the room. It is so annoying. Play anywhere was a huge step in ending the console war talk. The grifters who are still fighting that fight kinda don’t know what to talk about now. Well besides Xbox dead.
After reading The Verge piece and some of the other bits that have come out the last couple days (gaming news is unfortunately not high on my priority list atm
, so I’m a bit slow), I will say I’m a bit more optimistic.
Given that Sharma and Booty have said we should expect to hear about the next hardware soon, I hope that also extends to some special 25th anniversary Xbox Series S and X versions. This generation has been severely lacking in proper special edition consoles from all the platform-holders, understandably given the world’s many crises over the last five years. That said, Xbox’s hardware team during the 360 and Xbox One era put out some of the most well-designed and unique special edition consoles (my Gears 5 Xbox One X with the cracked ‘ice’ and laser-etching is one of the best designs of any console imo).
The Cyberpunk 2077 one is just… god damn
No one genuinely thinks that, it’s pure attention bait and throwing red meat to a certain audience.
We don’t know what the financial reports are going to be because Xbox can’t meet them and it’s hitting their studios. Satya is on his last leash with Sam Altman
But how does Microsoft makes money allowing gamers buy 3rd party games on Steam
If it was worth it for Microsoft then why isn’t Sarah or Matt the CEO of Xbox and not Asha. Asha is 36 years old and was in the AI division. Sea of Thieves, Grounded, Forza Horizon 5, and The Elder Scrolls IV Remastered were the biggest games from Xbox Project latitude.lnon PlayStation. As Dusk Falls, Outer Worlds 2, Doom, Indiana Jones, Hi- Fi Rush, Ninja Gaiden 4, even Call of Duty bombed on PlayStation. I want Satya and Amy fired.
Good luck, he’s beloved by the board and shareholders for generally making numbers go up, even through some harder periods
I think wanting someone fired is honestly not okay.
Does not matter who or what position; if you have those feelings, keep them to yourself.
I may not like Hood or Nadella, but to wish for them to be fired is kinda harsh. But, they ended up helping Microsoft in a pitch. But keep the thoughts to yourself. While I can see the reason behind the thought, it’s best to keep it between your lips. Just be thankful this wasn’t on Twitter or whatever.
