MLB The Show 21 launching into Game Pass Day ONE

MS dropping megatons, I know Phil says this will be the best year ever for Xbox every year, but 2021 has actually been delivering that.

wait they even SmartDelivery’d the shit out of it?

edit: oh ok no that’s for the gamepass versions

Fanboy mental gymnastics are off the charts with this one…believing Sony got paid a check for this (wrong), and saying that’s a win even though they have to pay $70 for a game on gamepass.

Stop cheering for the companies, cheer for free games.

Man, being an Xbox gamer is so amazing right now. If you really like playing games and aren’t finding a way into the Xbox Game Pass ecosystem at this point, you aren’t really doing it right IMO :slight_smile:

This is something i can’t understand about core fan base of gaming community.

So far for me

Exclusivity = Toxicity

And I believe in

Asscesbility = Engagement

Well, this is new Era of gaming.

Sony couldn’t give two shits about PSnow. All their big marketing and push has been for PS+ and even that has huge limitations.

PSnow is decent if you’re an old school PS fan but most of the games i want to play on Now are Stream only PS3 games.

Sony hasn’t done anything this gen to push Now.

I really have zero interest in baseball. I don’t even know how the game works. But this is MS parking their tanks on Sony’s lawn and opening fire. It’s a bit crazy because this really hurts the PS brand without taking anything away from it. I said months ago it was bizarre that Sony hadn’t established their gamepass equivalent. They are too late now. Really have massively misjudged how critical gamepass is becoming. I’d say now it’s bigger than any single console.

I wouldn’t say they are too late, but they will be late to the party when they do it.

They have really good singleplayer games, so people would obviously sign up in droves to play these massive games. However Xbox is more suited for a service like this. Reason being is that they have a lot of multiplayer focused games, and a sub service like this goes well with that. Microsoft also has a lot of pc focus which again is good for a subscription.

If Sony waits to long though I think they will give up sizable market share to Xbox. Also lots of ps5 only gamers will become multi-console owners taking revenue away from Sony.

Crazy to think that an app could push market share. But imagine if in the tv market Netflix was only available on one brand of tv’s and and couldn’t be used on other tv’s. It would be a HUGE selling point.

MS has the more powerful hardware and also the least expensive next gen hardware, 23 devs including all of Zenimax now, Gamepass, a great BC program etc.

Any PS only users that are still not convinced are never going to move and probably are Sony fans more than video game fans.

it’s the same way Disney+ rose so quick after being so late, because Disney went all in on it and is now getting massive numbers, and the reason for it being that the IP is the strongest its ever been and the content is generally good and the production quality is literally blockbuster level good. Sony could catch up in a similar way due to their prestige and more global presence, but it’ll take a LOOOOT of time and money to do so.

LMAO that background song on Kings tweet had me howling ‘‘These h**s ain’t loyal’’ LMAO.

Xbox ain’t playing around huh. This is some 4D chess right here. And all of this is just the beginning I feel. 2nd AAA 3P game on gamepass IN THE SAME MONTH. CRAZY.

BTW - the PC strategic moves have not even started yet. Discord will be the key there.

Holy crap. can Sony even respond by putting the game on PSnow or PSplus? It seems like they would lose millions if they did. MLB and gamepass is trending on Twitter. Whatever they paid to get this on Gamepass Day 1 it was probably worth it. This news is like free advertising for Gamepass.

I saw this argument thrown around a lot that Sony has great single player game or specially designed games. The question is, what’s gonna happen if MS starts to produce the same type of games?

I find the parallels of Xbox strong with Disney rather than Netflix.

Disney started buying when Warner was at its strongest.

They bought - Pixar, Lucas film, Marvel to complement their Disney Amination studios. Then they bought ABC, ESPN, and more recently Fox/Star/Sky.

Xbox is not trying to be the Netflix of gaming. They are trying to be Disney first - - to create the Disney Plus of gaming.

my analogy was just to illustrate about who came first to these subscriptions, not about which company is similar to which more. Xbox as Netflix is a right analogy in this case as in they did it first and invested heavy to become the industry standard, Disney as in an established giant who had largely ignored that model for the longest but could join in later and still see success.

Their back catalogue is on NOW. If they launch their games day and date into a service like MS do then Sony need more studios and a more diverse lineup. They aren’t well situated to launch such a service right now. Fair bit of work to do to scale it up because they would be second and unlike MS the ability to slowly grow it isn’t there anymore. Needs a big instant bang. To do it they’d have to grow their first party portfolio and also spend a shed load on multiplats. And doing that would mean huge huge losses for years. So I’m fairly confident that whilst in theory they could launch a service still it would be the steepest incline possible and getting steeper by the week. They’ve left it too late.

Wait this is gonna be xCloud as well?
