This one is really bad and I hope there’s a way for it to get blocked, this would mean that now CNN (which is already bad enough) would be under the same owner CBS is and potentially under Bari Weiss and we have seen how bad they have butchered CBS, I believe the Paramount owner was directly lobbying to Trump to block Netflix from getting this and promised him that he would make CNN MAGA friendly or some bullshit like that, this shit isn’t good for democracy but thankfully traditional media has been losing relevance so a significant amount of people don’t get their news from them anymore.
Hopefully we get a new South Park game. Also NetherRealm are going to have some new IP to add to Mortal Kombat. If people didnt like Bevis and Butthead in Call of Duty, get ready to see some crazy fatalities.

Lord I hope Paramount doesn’t win, but also would that even go through? They may have Trump’s support but these are both global companies and Paramount JUST had a massive merger. WB is also even more of a direct competitor. This would be like if Microsoft immediately tried buying Nintendo after the ABK deal closed.
Also I hate Netflix but they really aren’t wrong: WB straight up is NOT worth that much. This is a company that’s literally used goods; it has been bought and sold off so many times. Can Paramount even afford that? WB’s current situation is literally a result of AT&T going into to debt buying them and then failing to make the purchase profitable. We don’t need a repeat of that.

I wonder how that’d actually go over at DC. The comics space is pretty topical right now and DC is not at all being subtle in the ideas they support.
The new Absolute Universe that’s insanely popular is the biggest middle finger to the current state of America. Batman is working class and fighting AGAINST the system and against a wealthy Joker that is a monster and who uses his wealth to get away with being a monster (and he’s a monster in a way that the super wealthy in the real world have proven to be with their treatment of the innocent (children) and doing crazy stuff like paying to go kill people for fun). Superman is from a Krypton that was destroyed by the negligence of people. There’s a moment where he’s chastised by his teacher for using his own words instead of generative text and there’s a whole throughline about the importance of thinking. The super elite destroyed Krypton and hid it from everyone (Clark’s parents found out and tried to save everyone but only managed to save Kal-El). When Clark/Kal arrives in Kansas he arrives in a world that’s largely controlled by one super organization that has its own private millitarilized police force enforcing the law.
Seriously there would be such a crashout if the current admin tried to get their hands on this. As in I don’t know what they’d even do. Comics have a history of being propaganda. That’s literally what the first superhero team (the JSA) were, just world War 2 propaganda. WW2 is when a lot of superhero comics say their rise. Comics have always been political and continue to be political, but I’d say they generally lean on the more progressive side. Marvel and DC struggle with diversity, but they always push ideas of human progress, togetherness, and in general very liberal leaning messages.
Problem is when corporations get a hold of these companies and attempt to censor what they don’t like.
Yeah people have already been really critical of the recent actions of the news under Paramount. The one I’ve seen a bit more about though it how Amazon is handling the Washington Post and just had some really bad layoffs there. Journalism is getting a double whammy hit from both AI and political censorship.
Warner Bros is worth that much to them not for the profit but for control of the media.
It’s the Hungary play book, get billionaires to buy the media and make it favourable, then give them lots of government contracts and permission to buy / do stuff a sane administration would stop.
Anyone who’s seen Oracle’s behaviour in the past knew the Ellisons were evil pricks long before Trump - not only are their products inferior (but they usually bully or buy out their competitors - thank fuck SQL is primarily old-school Microsoft that could be just as evil) but they also treat communities like shit and have no forward thinking beyond “more money”.
The history of Java is a classic example - it used to be community led with permissive licensing that meant it was taught in education institutions ahead of C# (despite being a bit wobbly, it wasn’t the best for performance lol) but because Oracle built their shit on top of it they took ownership of it.
Since then, the licensing has got so insane most educational areas have dropped it, most businesses have completely removed it and forced anyone who built on top of it (like Intapp) to have alternative options like Corretto.
They’ve managed to almost destroy the community and the language - updates they’ve made have often been shite and very much focused on Oracle or making more money.
And Ellison couldn’t give a shit, he doesn’t understand the concept of a community helping each other out for free when you could pay him lots of money for support and licensing.
Overall, independence would have been best for WB, but anyone thinking Paramount was better than Netflix is nuts - the Ellisons are doing this to consolidate media power (I shiver to think what they’ll do to Last Week Tonight and CNN) in order to prop up an unpopular regime
