In an interview with Famitsu, Phil Spencer, CEO of Gaming at Microsoft, was asked about the Forza Motorsport series and whether the IP had been cut off. His immediate response was, “No!” He went on to explain:
As for Forza Motorsport, we sometimes have to shift our focus to games that will be released earlier. And I also understand that many people reacted when the scale of Turn 10 Studios was reduced. As far as we are concerned, there are many games that we would like to support carefully, and sometimes we give the development team a little more time so that they do not continue to be in a state of tension.
They have the opportunity to release the game to an extra 100 million users now on PlayStation, especially in Europe this would be significant because racing games are very popular there, I think it’s a no brainer to work on another one or at least port the last Motorsport to PS5.
I want to believe, but just the fact that he needs to reassure us that Turn 10 isn’t dead is depressing. I actually care about Motorsport a lot more than Horizon.
With GRID gone too it’s like there’s just not an audience for “simcade” racing anymore outside of Gran Turismo.
I see it as “no point for making more than one installment.” GT7 will likely be the only title for PS until next gen. Forza has their Halo Studio moment and we don’t know if they will be granted for another chance. Arcade basically took over.
I kind of see it the other way. Hardcore simulation took over. It’s Assetto Corsa or Mario Kart, nothing in between. ![]()
Good point. FM is not a simulation, more like sim-cade, and it’s actually really accessible for a racing game.
Perhaps I should say more like easy accessible racing. Full simulation is basically niche stuff by this point. People don’t understand how much the phrase “Fortnite ruined gaming” actually means. I mean for me, it is what it is, but if you think the likes of that only ruin shooter, it actually ruined much more.
Not a huge Motorsport fan, but I remember the marketing leading up to the latest mentioned the reason for the numbering drop was to signal “Forza Motorsport” as a long term title. I thought it was always the plan anyway to update it overtime and not have a new entry for a fat minute. The only big difference I see is that due to the lack of success there’s a smaller staff. So I guess it’s like Halo Infinite with the de team having mostly be axed (unfortunately) and moved to help with the next upcoming Forza title (Forza Horizon 6), and minimal staff left to keep doing updates. That sounds reasonable. Halo Infinite gets great updates now in spite of its dwindling population. Take some time and bring Motorsport back when it’s missed. But again, not a huge Motorsport fan so I don’t have much stake in this situation. Like I don’t play racing games much at all, I don’t play Motorsport at all, and I only casually play Horizon a bit.
Forza just maybe needs a break for a good few years it was getting kind of stale like GT
It had a six-year break; they just laid an egg. No heart or style, mixed with some technical issues and it didn’t pull in the sim or the simcade community.
I agree.
Felt Turn 10 hit their peek with Forza 6 it’s been downhill since then
The online multiplayer in FORZA was so broken at launch that killed the title for many of my xbox mates never mind the wider online community
