PS5 Teardown video released

M.2 SSD won’t hold 7GB/s SSD over time of use and probably will go lower than 5GB/s Speed, So how Sony Solved this Problem ?

I’ve longheld that the ps5 we have now is not the original design. They held off so long on showing us what the consoel looked like. I feel like they had an original design, but they could not fix the heat issue in the current form factor, especially after overclocking it to get to 10 tflops. And now look at the ps5. MASSIVE heat sink, chunky ass fan AND new liquid metal cooling system. And as I predicted, the disc drive is just sort of bolted to the side of the console like they didn’t have room on the inside. It really feels like they were scrambling to find some solution to the heating issue.

My guess is that they had very agressive price targets from the start which resulted in such a complecated design. Or maybe they had to redesign the cooling system and and entire hardware when they choose to implement higher clocks.

I think originally the PS5 was going to be 1800mhz @ 8.2tflops, but they panicked when they got word Microsoft were aiming for 12tflops and they tried to amend the situation.

Before we ask that question we just first ask about M.2 modules that are tested with the system and recommended by Sony.

To add…

Sony specifically added a dust catcher with the ability to be vacuumed. While for techies this might seem like something cool I can see the average casual consumer not knowing what to do when it inevitably gets clogged and starts creating issues.

yeah that’s true

I like the capability offered here but unfortunately in the fine print:

It isn’t even funny how much more…say…console friendly MS’s approach is to the SSD solution. Oh my oh my.

This system seems overly complex and the true size has finally been revealed. This is a massive console, the fact that it has all these curves and fins is what makes it even bigger. They should have simplified the design or went all black so it looks smaller.

It’s also worth noting that at the reveal Cerny said that at launch there would probably be no drives to add to their list of certified devices. I suppose that might change by early 2021.

Yep. They know issues will definitely arise.

While the capability is neat you have to wonder…

Why go thru the effort of including a vaccumable dust catcher? Seems like the cooling solution and it’s performance is susceptible to dust impeding it from functioning optimally. And they’re limiting they’re liability via a fine print.

Not to be a killjoy, but can we cool it with the conspiracy theories and dunking, please? It’s a little disconcerting to see all this negativity :frowning:

I’m getting an XSX and I can appreciate the fantastic job Microsoft’s engineers have done without raining on anyone’s parade!

As a quick side note from someone who looked into liquid metal for personal and enterprise solutions, it is not a good idea when you have copper heat sinks, as it will cause ion migration to the copper and performance can be affected.

Time will tell. Maybe the feature was a requirement as the vents are big and an easy dust bunny magnet. I hope they will mention it in the brochure comes with every console that owners have to check this every month or so.

Yes, only Xbox is dunkable. Now just sit in a corner quietly and don’t bother the people that really matter. /s

I feel the same way! I really love Xbox, but I like gaming on all systems and I don’t want to just constantly dunk on others. It feels good that MS is getting positive buzz for once, but I don’t want this place to be a warring console fanboy zone. Obviously with a name “XboxEra” Xbox is the focus but you can be buzzed and hyped on Xbox without being a console warrior.

I don’t support any kind of dunking, so I’m not sure what you’re trying to say. If what you mean is “Xbox has been dunked on in the past so we’re justified in being petty” then I have to disagree.

I couldn’t agree more! Let’s enjoy our pastime without tearing others down

That’s known as “having fun” by normal people. Stop taking things so seriously. It’s just videogames. You are the one raining on people’s parades.

I mean I will be getting a PS5 later in the generation ( too expensive for now ) to play some exclusives, but not everything is perfect either. I’m not fond of their SSD replacement, and the metal liquid system makes me ask myself more questions than anything else. Also having to clip and unclip with a screwdriver a stand just to change the PS5’s position is not really brilliant either.

I get what you want to say, but at the same time I can’t say I’m really hyped by what they have shown so far.
