What people don’t know was how abysmal were the market share of Windows Phone was- some horribly small percentage. There was no coming back for the Windows Phone.
Unironically I think the only hope Microsoft has of gaining the mobile market is through Xbox. Both with gaming and by making use of the implications of the Xbox Full screen experience. They could move windows to a truly modular future where a “windows phone” exists as a mode built on top of windows 11 like they’re doing with Xbox Full screen experience. But they were never going to compete with Apple and Google that late in the game with everything boiling down to the lack of software support. The reason why I wouldn’t expect Xbox to go down the same path is because despite hardware sales, it continues to see more and more game support from first and third party developers.
I don’t think they were arguing (though only they would know), it really just read to me like, “Hey, I’d have personally really liked it if the Series S had this change, and I don’t think it would have impacted sales much.”
I’m not terribly concerned about the software experience (it might just be up to devs if they want to keep developing Xbox Series versions, but that’s always up to the devs), but I am worried about next Gen not having a budget console model. It really feels like gaming media stomped the Series S into the ground and then spat on it for daring to exist. I wonder if we’ll see similar game pass outrage, when Xbox listens next Gen and gets rid of the budget console.
Cloud could potentially be that cheaper option, I just don’t think it’s viable for everyone yet, and definitely not for all games. I see myself using it more and more but I still get lag spikes and pixelization once in a while which wouldn’t work on a more competitive game, especially if it’s meant to replace 100%.
The PS6 portable rumour but in console form factor actually makes a lot of sense in that the experience would actually be worse than PS5 from my understanding but would give Sony a cheaper point of entry. In hindsight, considering how people shit on Xbox for giving gamers just that I don’t see how it will be popular, but it probably will be considered the second coming of Christ because Mark Cerny made it!
Really hoping the rumours that Magnus is somehow made to be scaled to different configurations is true so that we get several variations at different price points from OEMs. I personally know people that got Series S because of the price at the time of launch so there are indeed people out there that are price sensitive and need a cheaper option.
Not on about the graphics or performance of the Series S in terms of playing current games. Only that it would have been nice to have the full BC mode from the One X in the Series S in terms of 4K & where I doubt adding the additional 2 gigtybes of memory needed Would have added much to the overal cost or impacted on sales to any great degree
I game more on the PC now but I also own & love the Series X. It looks great, it fits so well with a modern day room setup and performace is outstanding and I too love its BC support and its UHD bluRay playback
With the talk of the power that will be inside the next Xbox console I’m ready to move back to gaming on consoles 100% and leave the PC since I expect the ray tracing performance of the new Xbox console should be terrfic and ray tracing was what made me embrace PC gaming a few year back
While simultaneously cranking out constant opinion pieces lamenting rising prices and how gaming is becoming a hobby exclusively for rich people, of course. ![]()
Don’t worry, they are already doing the opposite to the rumored and unreleased new system. Because its GOING TO BEE TOOOO EXPENSIVE! DOA! WHO WILL EVEN WANT IT?!
Cheap and affordable = Holding back gaming
Middle of the road = Too similar to other hardware, just get a playstation
Balls to the Wall Hardware = Too Expense, undesireable.
But equally, gaming is a luxury so you’re not allowed to complain about PlayStation pricing! ![]()
Price will be key but I think the idea of the hardware is exciting once you look at cost of a building a pc .
I wonder what Microsoft is going to do to make the user experience better than other storefronts . I think that part will be key
More like
Cheap and affordable: Just get a PS5 digital
Middle of the road: Just get a PS5 with disc drive because you need to stick it to the man and buy physical bro!
Balls to the Wall hardware: Gotta go with that PS5 Pro and that sweet PSSR, it’s even better than DLSS thank to Mark Cerny!
Cerny am GOATED! Created the worst upscaling technique on the market!

I’m in my hot bath right now listening to that Cerny ASMR, tears of joy slowly falling down my cheeks, knowing that my life has been this great only because of Cerny’s greatness!
Saw some insane stuff on reddit, where MLID apparently said AMD loves working with Sony engineers and have lunch together, but hate working with MS. It’s insane the lengths people go to in order to push Sony to the forefront every time!
Maybe we need the CEO of Next Gen to do an ASMR video as well to present the next Xbox!
Ill be honest, somethings I can find more believeable than others. Now, I only work with Microsoft on the IT side of the house, but sometimes interactions with them make me want to set myself on fire.
I cant judge the gaming technology side, obviously, but I find that easier to believe than most things I read online.
Did someone send him photos of his ear though ? Tempest audio was way ahead with this ear fetish!! It could have been amazing!
Tempest Audio and ASMR, a match made in heaven! Cerny and the Sony engineers are not only ahead of MS in CPU and GPU design, but also ahead of Dolby’s audio engineer!

My only thing is, wouldn’t this open up AMD or Sony to potential lawsuits from Microsoft? I guess they wouldn’t care, but it also seems like a weird level of unprofessionalism to gloat about. Like if Microsoft engineerers are generally more closed off (not people you want to hang out with) and it just happens that people (such as AMD engineers) like Sony folks more, cool. But do you want that documented online as a major business partner and tech leader having a bias for one group over the other? I’m most. Just concerned by the grown men that think high school lunch table politics is a flex ![]()
