Very well written article. I’ve been with Xbox since the original Xbox and been there through the ups and down.
I’m definitely where you’re at in terms of giving her chance but I also understand why some are hesitant about her because of her ai background but again we really don’t know how it will go but I’m choosing optimism.
Regrading the response to why everyone wants them to “die”, it’s a combination of factors but we cant underestimate how much people just hate Microsoft and how Xbox fans maybe going a little too far sometimes in their comments to media figures in this space after years of the “no games” discourse and other issues.
I will never, ever understand why anyone finds it interesting to talk about what is ‘dead’ and what is not, beyond a wholesale closure of a company or brand, and thus the things that can never be again. Let alone seemingly being cheerful about it, as though all that really happened was you won a playground argument. That Kotaku article is written from an incredibly arbitrary position, one you’d think a serious analyst of gaming would find a touch overwrought. It’s fatuous in the extreme, and consistently privileges vibes and narrative slop (hey look! It’s not just AI that can produce shit!) over… what actual people actually do with their actual time and money, what they actually enjoy and how insignificant this chatter is to the latter.
For Shcrodinger’s Xbox, see also the games.
There are none / they all suck
These have good metacritics / they’re all flops
Nobody wants them / look at the sales on PS5!
Who cares? / Lol no more exclusives lol
Make up your minds, children.
Interesting article, thanks.
“It’s simultaneously both irrelevant and dangerously dominant.”
Lol so real
Don’t think about it too deep it literally comes down to Xbox not being the winning team and you get a lot of attention shitting on them.
That’s why that viral tweet by a Nintendo fanboy saying Sony only mismanaged one studio and that Xbox mismanaged an entire division went viral despite just not being true. They’ve just become the punching bag of the industry because they just find it fun and they love triggering the remaining loyal fans. That’s why I ignore them.
The only way Xbox can change the narrative is making genre defining games like Indiana Jones where they can’t make those stupid arguments and also just stop reporting the console sales if it’s not a priority anymore. And yes I understand it’s an unfair standard but it’s really their only path forward.
And yet, Nintendo is the “winning” team. At least for console warriors. Most gamers don’t care and don’t know.
True haha. The Nintendo fans dip their toes in console war with PlayStation fanboys and it’s funny to see lol
