So... What's your Halloween games this season?

It’s that time of the year, the traditional spooky season, which as some nebulous origins from ‘All Hallows’ Day’ to ‘Samain’ or ‘All Saints Day’. From Scotland to Ireland or The United States, but also linked to Christianity and France, as I learned recently.

Trick or treating is kind of universal though, just like all the costumes and monsters imagery: witches, vampires, zombies, skeletons…

It’s that time of the year to get in that spooky mood, watch some horror movies or play some survival horror games! So what’s your poison this season ?

Are you in the mood for some Costume Quest replay ?

Some Cronos ?

Dead Space Remake ?

Or Resident Evil ?

Or even the Multiplayer type ?

I keep telling myself that I’ll start with Alan Wake 2 tomorrow in the evening, but I’m also seeing a horror movie in the cinema called Good Boy. Remains to be seen if I’m still in the mood for (horror)gaming afterwards.

Well let’s see, Outer Worlds 2, I’m pretending to be compitent.

Baldur’s Gate 3, I’m pretending to know what I’m doing.

Both games also have scary monsters and I think robots too.

Too afraid of watching that movie mainly because of the protagonist. I legit want to spoil myself to know his status.

Control, as it’s about time I get it over and done with.

I know what you mean. You could always Google it, or I can tell you afterwards tomorrow. It’s a surprisingly short movie though , a hour and 12 minutes.

Finally started Silent Hill f and still playing around (after 3 full playthroughs) in a new save at Cronos: TND which I guess I have to uninstall so it doesn’t distract me from SHf, anyone who is a fan of old school survival horror games should give Cronos a try. It’s a game made by survival horror fans for surivival horror fans, it’s excellent.

You are in for a treat my friend, the first game is decent with some cool moments but the game has an identity crisis because it wants to be a traditional action/adventure and a cinematic narrative game too and it fails on mixing those two well enough…the gameplay parts are often poorly realized and end up hurting the pacing of the game, combat is also dull and can be easily exploited by spamming dodging and heavy attacks rinse and repeat. It’s still worth playing though because you will play Hellblade 2 afterwards which is a visual-audio masterpiece and a more focused experience overall with much better pacing, tense AF combat (especially on Hard) and a very well written story without the pretentious BS from Antoniades this time around (compare the cringe ending of the first game to the beautiful sequence of the sequel for example). It’s the best that the cinematic-narrative adventure genre has to offer (Sik’s review was spot on) IMO, it’s worth playing just for the breathtaking atmosphere/art direction alone.

This year has been unrelenting in nearly every aspect of my life, so I’ve been dealing with a wee anhedonia…

Seeing some of these suggestions at least gives me some ideas to try and jolt something. Halloween and Xmas seasons have always been my favorite until this year.

I love costume quest for this time of year, and there were some good quests in AC Valhalla focused on Samhain. I wonder if I can replay that

I will probably start Silly Polly Beast. I guess it’s thematically fitting.

Or maybe I should get back to Sorry We’re Closed. There’s so many cool small indie games.

Spooky season starts for me on September 1st.

Ive played through mostly retro games this year. Splatterhouse, Splatterhouse 2, Splatterhouse 3, Master of Darkness and a few others. Played through Luigis Mansion 2 HD last month, and I might start Luigis Mansion on GameCube and play a little bit today. Though I think its lame Nintendo dropped it on NSO so late into the month.
