Get a look at the Acclaim Trailer for South of Midnight, a narrative-driven action-adventure game developed by Compulsion Games. Players will explore the mythos and folklore of the Deep South to unravel a family mystery with ancient powers at the ready. South of Midnight is launching on March 31 for PlayStation 5 (PS5), with the game being available now for Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam), and an eventual release on Nintendo Switch 2.
By far Compulsions best game. I really hope it gets an extra life on PS5 and Switch 2 because it was really a great game that didn’t get enough praise in my opinion.
Really enjoyed South of Midnight overall. The weak spot was the combat itself as it was more basic than Kena was and setup the same too. But everything else was excellent across the board. Hoping for a sequel.
It deserves to do great on PS5 and Switch 2. I agree the combat is too simple and there’s not enough variety. Besides that, graphics are stunning and story is amazing. I still have that song stuck in my head.
Thought the combat was fine, but I also played on hard and felt like I really had to manage the cool downs to maximize damage and healing during the fight. That said, somehow it did feel less… polished? Smooth? … Than Kena even though I think the weaver hooks had a lot more potential than Kena’s stick.
SoM played just fine and that was an improvement over Compilation’s previous games which played anything but fine. It shined in its atmosphere, music, and unique southern gothic vibe. Compulsion have potential for more in them, hopefully they are supported by MS to continue improving and making more cool games in unique settings.
