again, dont think anyone is mad the game is delayed, its just that these delays leave behind a massive year long hole in the ecosystem (and gamepass especially which no other game can actually even come close to offsetting). It’s YET ANOTHER year of “wait for next year”, no doubt its frustrating for many.
Also Im not sure delays automatically means less crunch, we’ve been over this several times before with many games. But yes, it’s an objectively good thing the game gets more time and hopefully the devs are better for it.
Me personally it’s more frustration since last exclusive was halo infinite, and starfield was most anticipated. However Twitter reaction is much different than here and it’s pretty toxic. I agree that we don’t know if this results in less crunch
Btw, just want to say, it’s really cool seeing an (almost) entirely level headed discussion over some pretty bad Xbox news. I’m sure many know how rare that is these days lol.
Deep dive soon means completely nothing. What does "soon " even mean there? We often get the press releases with “cannot wait to share the new information soon” for the games and new information appears much later.
I’m going to say a lot of obvious things here. The drought of AAA exclusives should be disappointing to anyone but the delay is good for the product and us gamers.
I hear Fallout 76 is great right now but I don’t think the game’s reputation was able to fully recover. It tarnished Bethesda’s reputation for a while.
Had Halo Infinite released last week (ie. a 6 month delay), it would have had a good amount of content to hit the ground running. Season 2 would have made a great season 1 in terms of content for a new GaaS.
The wait sucks but it pays off for both the gamer and the publisher/developer.
I don’t want to pretend that this drought is all rainbows and sunshine though.
This is a drought that can hurt console sales and Gamepass subscriptions. It can tarnish the Xbox brand has a whole with grassroots rhetoric centering around the Xbox having no games.
So there’s a clear trade-off here. With this delay Starfield can be another Elden Ring. Universally acclaimed and the focal point of the entire gaming industry. But it’s a painful delay for everyone involved.
Also not a fan of the rhetoric that is claiming that Microsoft has 30 studios and isn’t able to do much with them. Ultimately it comes down to Microsoft not supporting the Xbox from 2010-2017 as much as they do now. We didn’t see much 1st party growth and it had long term effects that COVID and WFH amplified. Even late in the 360 era we didn’t see a lot of 1st party growth. Had we seen that growth the Xbox One era would have actually been more tolerable from a 1st party exclusive standpoint.
But what’s done is done and maybe this situation will open MS up to small-to-mid sized acquisitions. While we are focused on AAA games there are games like Rocket League, Fall Guys, Among Us, Phasmophobia, etc. that dominate the gaming public zeitgeist and prove to be valuable exclusives and fill in the gaps well.
