Starfield and Redfall delayed to first half of 2023

I’m getting jumped, they pulling receipts of me saying “You guys don’t get it man, this is how BGS markets their games. Starfield is 100% dropping this year.”

I’m down bad in there man.

This delay doesn’t change the fact that Redfall and Starfield are locks for the 12th.

Vertical slices take months to get together for these events.

Nah, I would rather believe it will open Microsoft to even more big acquisitions because they really need much more studios for a stable gaming cadence. Games like Rocket League, Fall Guys are pretty much random in their success. Granted Microsoft for some reason often misses them and they get exclusive and marketing deals with Sony.

oh nah you used the bethesda marketing cycle just like everyone on this forum. That was a wrap from the onset. :sob:

Does the distinction really matter? They’re doing the deep dive for both Starfield and Redfall.

I’m not sure how Sony exactly got those titles, but it was genius to make them PS Plus titles. It’s quite possible that Sony is doing a better job of finding these titles than MS. But say Microsoft is able to find the next Rocket League: making it a Gamepass title is one thing but acquiring that developer so that the title remains exclusive could be incredibly valuable. And it adds to their stable of first party developers because their next title would be highly anticipated.

AAA exclusives are nice but you can have the same impact with the right must-play multiplayer title.

Same man, Iv gone though all the stages of grief already

I don’t know man… ‘multiplayer’ is a taboo word for some here :man_running::dash:

What an amazing reply. This needs to be pinned or highlighted. :+1:

The Stalker delay due to the terrible war going on hurts MS even more with how their internal development has gone.

stalker was delayed before the war and then became delayed indefinitely because of it.

Yeah I have a buddy on WhatsApp, huge BGS fan but he said he’s lost faith in them. Their glory days are over. He said its total insanity how long the wait for TES VI is taking and that I should temper my hopes.

I get disappointment about delays, about how long its taking for TES VI, but to say their glory days are over? As if he forgot Fallout 4, which IS a great game. I think after the deep dive his faith in them will return. I certainly haven’t lost faith in them.

It was reality before covid, now it’s obvious that we’re still far off from “back to normal” if we ever even get there.

So this is why I’m happy they were move vague on the exact release date, at least for now.

I know titles like CP had devs languish when they game was only delayed a month or two forward, as it meant they’d have to keep crunching for another two months. And then another. And then another. I can imagine how demoralizing something like that was.

At least with them keeping it somewhat open ended of “first half 2022”, it gives them time to figure out when exactly they’re ready to release.

All of the above is assuming they don’t’ just give it a hard date next month lol.

What a shame, but I ain’t getting into doom & gloom mode just yet: Bethesda announced Wolfenstein TNO, Wolfenstein TNC, The Evil Within 1 & 2, Fallout 4 and Skyrim (AFAIR {As Far As I Remember}) on the same year those games released, so maybe they have something on their sleeves to reveal. Same for Xbox with Forza Horizon.

Been thinking of that too, but wouldn’t that be extremely odd? Why not put the concrete date in the delay announcement?

All these delays make the AAA business model feel completely unsustainable long term. The dev time that used to get you the development hell/vaporware label is slowly becoming the new normal and that was pre-pandemic. Makes the acquisition frenzy going on in the industry feel less like stacking the deck and more like trying to maintain the cadence of releases from past generations. Game dev inflation if you will.

I remember being assured way back that Starfield was a lock for a Fall 2021 release, ooft.

if any insider like grub or jez said anything being “locked” you guys can surely post the source of them saying, right?
