Starfield and Redfall delayed to first half of 2023

Personally at this point it is impossible to predict anything. We only know that the games are not cancelled :joy:

it shouldn’t make it longer though. Fable has been rumored since 2018, and most of these studios have been acquired since 2018. a 6 to 7 years developing cycle seems too much for me, not even considering they have a subscription service. and not to mention the competitor’s fast release cycles.

I am afraid that’s the current mentality of Xbox.

Some of you guys have gone looney

Everwild pre reboot was targeting 2023 so it’s not hitting 2024 at the earliest and Perfect Dark I dont expect earlier than 2024 either

The delays for Starfield and Redfall mean very little for their other games

GamePass is going to need to be continually fed going forward, if they happen to have 5 or even 6 big games ready in 2023/4 or whenever then they will release when they are ready

If Avowed is ready for 2023 its not suddenly going to not release in 2023 because Starfield also is

I’d add one more year to each of these games you named at first, Avowed being 2024 and Fable 2025 seems more realistic but only time will tell.

Everwild considering what happened to it, god knows but 2025+ is a safe bet, and Perfect Dark might make it to 2024 i hope.

Time to accept it’ll take MS longer than we thought to be able to deliver a big amount of AAA games per year, at least 2023 will be fine due to 2022 being empty.

Matty has his take on it, it’s a good video. Basically he just days 2022 was supposed to be the year of these two games, two brand new IP, new blood that Xbox players have been waiting for, for a long time. And from there on into 2023 we’d see Avowed, maybe Fable, but right now it’s all up in the air.

He does get a bit doom and gloomy with kind of questioning the future of Xbox, and he acknowledges that too, says he’s barely ever like that but that’s how he feels now. I can definitely see where he’s coming from.

And yes we all know about covid and everything else, still doesn’t mean it isn’t very unfortunate. This “new” Xbox with huge new IP and promise has seen a delay, sadly. Just hope we WILL get to a point where we can have at least two or three big release in a year. Really liked the sound of their plans for having a game every quarter or so but we are not there yet by any means.

Yet more waiting really.

fable is PG’s first crack at a completely different genre than they are used to. the length of dev time makes complete sense.

Well, at least from marketing standpoint, Microsoft’s current mentality is - Game Pass is a marketing

I would ask him why whenever a game is being delayed, suddenly Xbox’s future is in jeopardy. Does he do that for everyone, what with delays being common, or just Xbox ?

I thought Starfield was delayed to the first half of 2023

With absolutely zero inside information and barely any game dev knowledge, I’m going to guess it was testing limitations. Considering how confident they were to give an exact date, I think they figured the game was coming along at a good pace. Then it came to doing rigorous QA/Testing/etc, and it turns out they needed more time.

This is pure conjecture on my part, but considering their wording for this delay (polishing) and the limitations on in-house testing we know that Covid has (and continues to) cause, feels reasonable enough to me.

God matty is such a clown

I think he’s having a moment right now, lol, he says in his video that he’s a bit emotional about it all right now. For him as hardcore BGS fan it’s bittersweet. Good that BGS and Xbox realize the game needs more time in the oven, but bad because he was so certain of the release date. He’ll talk more in a podcast about it and I think he’ll be less dramatic there.

Usually isn’t really all that Doom and gloom, he’s more of the almost over excited gamer type, haha.

I had a good laugh :joy:

In 2020 it was “wait for 2021”, in 2021 it was “wait for 2022”, in 2022 we have “wait for 2023”.

Well, considering that Sony moneyhats third parties - even without first party releases they kinda get “exclusive” games.

2021 was good though

Yep, 2021 was a pretty good year for Xbox, even had a good E3 show.

It’s also why I always laugh at the “wait for e3” memes/narrative. I don’t care how good an E3 is, I’m already waiting for the next one. And the one after that, and the one after that.

Why wouldn’t I wait for it, it’s the best time of the year!

Yeah, we even had Grubb saying 2022 was gonna be the year we’d start to see everything coming together. Now maybe he meant E3 with that, and we’ll have to wait and see what they got in store but in terms of games…man.

Understandable imo, no big secret that Xbox has more to proof than Switch and Playstation, the other platform holders are delivering a decent amount of different games even if they clearly were hit by Covid etc too, while MS , for the 2 first years will have Halo and Forza, or if we’re lucky, Halo and 2 Forzas.

The doom and the “xbox has no games” troll jokes will end obv, but in this 2022, every bad thing that could happen, has happened and it will take near a year to get things going again
