I hope this becomes one of the live service greats. Like as big as Forza Horizon 6. What competition does it really have? We’re mostly out of the Zombie survival games era.
I think it will. It has all the ingredients, but the previous games lacked the finishing touch, and people would clown on it for not having great graphics, or being janky.
The only issue I see potentially hurting them, is the opinions of people who play it as a linear game, and just make a beeline through the “story’”. I remember seeing some complaints that 2 could be completed in 6 hours, and that the story wasn’t great.
In my opinion, they were playing the game the wrong way, as it really came into its own when you took the time to really engage in the systems, explore the map, and build a group of survivors.

This is the game I want most in 2027. SoD2 was comfort food during the pandemic. I do hope this game remains playable alone even though it seems like it’s going to be more focused on online cooperative play.
