Guess the Rockstar devs aren’t human like your buddies over at Insomniac?
And like, I wouldn’t be criticizing if they weren’t the ones putting out these high handed statements about how not reporting the leaked info is the morally right thing to do. Once you go down that road then your past hypocrisy is fair game.
I’m well aware that there different circumstances in this case, but that never stopped them from running all the previous hacks (which, if you have a brain, you’ll realize were also criminal acts) and on top of everything else this year, it certainly paints a pretty clear line to Sony fanboyism in the media.
As another actual journalist pointed out today, it’s the media’s job to report the news and if you can’t figure out how to do that without posting a link to the source or highlighting any PII, you’re a terrible journalist. Today proved once and for all that Sony gets a completely different set of rules by the media than any other dev/publisher, and if that isn’t a stark wake up call, I don’t know what is.
What happened is horrific. Specifically, the information about the studio employees .
it is logical that everyone refuses to talk about employee leaks , but not talking about the company interesting information and plans is laughable.
But why am I surprised that the gaming industry media has always been ignorant and dishonest and supports certain parties at the expense of other parties .
Capcom information leaked ? Fuck them
Microsoft information leaked ? Oh boy Huge party
Rocksteady information leaked ? Yeah we don’t care about them
But sony !!! Ethics and standards appear at the highest level
This is the reason why I hate most of the game industry media figures and find them hypocritical
Was maybe trying to say that “because it’s a company from the other side of the world, they don’t have friends there, so don’t mind reporting on the leak”, just from my perspective.
I’m just glad people is finally calling the media out for the most obvious things that has happened for a while to be fair, but it’s a start in terms of asking for accountability.
Yes so Western games media like KFG wouldn’t have much relationship with them due to language/location/etc barriers. In addition, there was not much of a reaction from Capcom employees themselves from their leak, overwhelmingly most JP game devs are not active on social media. I feel that causes an unconscious thing where, a company like Capcom is just some black box that produces video games, but Insomniac are “my fellow industry allies” or something like that, when really, of course both situations are the same. I think in Genki’s tweet, “double standards” was probably not the right term but there is an unconscious kind of thing going on IMO.
Lol, these are the same people( not KFG, but games media in general like PCgamer) who has harassed Todd Howard and BGS devs since the dawn of time because “Bethesda games bad” and they telling me they care about devs
I would guess marketing is a big component. Sony is still doing those massive, bombastic campaigns. Microsoft stopped, and I know it bugs people but there’s also probably a reason.
I’ve seen a few places now saying the marketing budgets can be anywhere from half to just as much as the actual game.
Next time it will be Ubisoft or some “faceless” developer who’s not one of the “cool kids,” and journalists will not think twice about whose feelings get hurt.
And Rockstar are not beloved developers lol? The only difference is Insomniac are Sony 1st party, so they got a defense force of fanboys ready. This babying of Insomniac is fascinating.
Nobody is asking to report on leaked employee details, just the normal game leaks. You can feel sorry for the employees and still report on the news.
Xbox’s full future hardware roadmap was leaked, something that could have a way bigger impact on the future of the brand, something probably thousands of people actively worked on. But the press had a field day then, literally every single outlet, no one cared about the people who worked on all that hardware.
