I haven’t seen it being mentioned what kind the personal info even is so that’s telling me that people aren’t actually sharing that part (I’m sure some assholes are but not the ones reporting it)
Otherwise the information there is very rich for reporting from Sony stuff and Insomniac pipeline. And it paints a good picture of the studio with how much they’re developing and carrying PS 1st party this gen so I’m not sure it’s all bad at all.
Correct, no one is saying or asking to cover the information about the people.
As for the change in attitude… You dont even have to go back that far. Just go back to yesterday. On 2023-12-18 game and company leaks of all sorts were fine, but on 2023-12-19 they’re off limits.
The next two years is gonna be real interesting since this is the time that Xbox will gradually open the floodgates . The conversations about the state of both brands is definitely gonna be wild.
When I say everyone, I mean everyone. Nintendo is going to announce their new console. I can feel it. Xbox with ABK year one begins with Game Pass drop and such. Jim Ryan will leave with interim taking over. Journalists are being called out more than ever, so their testament is now being challenged more so than ever.
Don’t forget that year after year a large portion of the Xbox E3 showcase would be leaked online and these same people would gleefully talk about it. I remember reading someone even say that if Sony’s show had leaked, they wouldn’t reveal it though because the devs deserved to have their moment.
When we all talk about bias in the games media, it’s not like they’ve even been trying to hide it. They just didn’t think it would matter since Xbox continuously kept stepping on their own landmines and appeared to be heading down the Sega path. Now that Xbox has their sh*t together and the future of the brand looks bright, these same assholes are trying to pretend that they’re not biased despite doing every possible thing they can to contradict that narrative.
What’s worse for me is that I think they actually believe it. It’s both fascinating and aggravating at the same time.
Comparing leaks for a conference three days in advance, or a major studio’s plans for almost 10 years, with ultra-confidential documents on finances or strategy… wow. The existence of bias does not justify talking nonsense.
I didn’t do that though? My comment was related to another poster’s comment about media bias. Having said that though, if you truly believe these same outlets wouldn’t be covering this story with full enthusiasm if it had been Microsoft and say, 343, well…
Unfortunately I expect review scores & metacritic to remain the same battleground where MS titles get low 80’s & 70’s… for reasons. No matter how the game actually plays or how good it really is. These scores often get dished out by the same outlets who’re currently crying about the Insomniac leaks.
Nothing to see here folks!
Seriously though, if ever people wanted proof of how dangerously close the so-called gaming media is to certain corporations, this is it. Sites like Gamespot etc. are no better than early social media reviews for the latest Disney Marvel movie release.
