How? SB ranks #4 in Europe while SoT ranks #1 there
USA.
The plan to move Xbox games to other platforms is codenamed “Latitude” internally, and I know there’s debate and unease at Microsoft about whether or not this is a good idea. More upcoming Microsoft-owned games slated for PlayStation are already being developed. While it’s true Microsoft is a prolific publisher on PlayStation already, it has typically revolved around specific franchises like Minecraft. From what I’ve heard, Microsoft is pushing for no “red line” for what games could come to PlayStation, and it all revolves around Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood’s plans to increase every department’s margins.
According to the executive, the PS4 console cycle can be seen as a transition period to a business model focused on platform playtime.
Seems they are trying to milk users more.
If Nadella and Hood want it to happen then it’s happening.
Yelp, xbox hardware is dead. Its been fun guys, gonna invest on the next switch cause this will backfire for next hardware horribly. For those that think it will not then am sorry to say it will and its going to show in less than 3 months. I guarantee.
I do not like saying but Satya and Amy need to step down, its ridiculous not only for Xbox but Microsoft as a whole. Jesus, this whole ideas of theirs are bad long term no matter how folks see it.
This is the most shortsighted decision in a company i have ever seen, okay next to Nijisanji, but the point stands still.
I find it weird Jez acts like he knows nothing on the XB2 podcast the 5 days later comes with an article about project Latitude and how more games are being ported. Maybe he wanted to keep the spotlight on his article, I dunno.
My gut feeling is that if that is happening, considering the “internal debates”, I think it’s older releases and trying to maximize profits more than the latest and greatest day and date.
I still think that they are trying to have the best of both worlds, and it’s hard to say how customers will react in the end as if their hardware strategy is changing with the upcoming gen and hybrid PCs, technically both Xbox and PS would have pretty much the same games. In fact, Xbox would probably end up with more games due to EGS and Steam and more sales with stuff like the Steam Summer sales and the likes, which could sway customer support their way to be honest.
It could just be for short term gains, or there might be more strategy behind it, hard to say at this point imo.
lol, calm down bro
Am trying but the ramifications are gonna be bad for xbox console users if Project Latitude is about porting every game of their going forward to playstation and Nintendo day one.
It will backfire once next gen starts and they only have themselves to blame for this decision. Mostly Amy and Satya.
It does not make me at all confident in their future whatsover after hearing about this.
Heck it makes the next Nintendo Switch far more compeling now with this stunt
I guess the writing has been on the walls for a while now. After all Satya made it clear how he doesn’t like exclusivity.
If you are not that confident you could always switch right now if that’s how you are leaning.
Considering what they’ve talked about interviews, to me it’s clear Xbox is becoming an app that’ll live on PC and everything you currently own will follow you there and that the next console will by a PC with a closed OS and secure kernel that supports other stores as well (if they can make the right deals). That way it guarantees every 3rd party has their games on Xbox as no additional porting is necessary and it leaves the door open to other manufacturers to have “Xboxes” and make the ecosystem bigger.
But we’ll see. I’m however not going to make decisions based on speculative articles, especially with everything that happened just a few weeks ago and how overblown it was.
Exactly what I thought. The usual COD, Fallout (remake), new Spyro, etc. Probably another overblown shit show just for clicks.
Jez said he only writes articles when he has proof that it’s true.
And tbf it’s an opinion piece, but I don’t think he would mention something like this randomly.
Shit.
I mean, i will still buy games for consoles, especially if more Jrpg come along, however i think i will buy a nintendo console after this year, mostly cause i never had one before.
Although i will most likely be having to write my stories at a more firm pace now as am currently doing looking for jobs.
IIRC Jez said guides for games get more clicks than stuff like this.
Looking at his tweet though, it seems like it’s the usual suspects but that they are open to more. But the discourse online will turn to “OMG EVERYTHING IS 3RD PARTY, XBOX IS COOKED!”
Yeah, i do have to wonder if any of the Xbox higher ups is gonna clear this kinda thing in any future interview like the one Phil is getting with Ryan.
You don’t put your games just as a test on your rival’s platform.
I think most people believe that it’s gonna happen. Console market is not growing while games are getting more expensive. Xbox getting outsold by 5:1 this quarter.
HW is probably cooked, but software ? They will swim in money.
