The Big ol' Xbox 3rd Party Releases Discussion Thread (HiFi, SoT, Pentiment, Grounded) (Part 1)

Yeah, that’s what i was thinking.

I think hardware is gonna crash and burn if Satya and Amy continues down this route.

I do wonder if things were like this when Bill Gates was still head of Microsoft. I imagine in some way but again i could be wrong.

Cooked as in, likely no next gen hardware after all or more like it being the last one? It’s impossible to say, but I hope at least one more.

Its impossible to predict, ask me again around end of August.

I believe we have many years of new HW, but it’s not the focus anymore.

I’d relax a bit porting games is not cheap and takes time, so I doubt you will be seeing a flood of games moving over especially with PlayStation not doing that well in game sales. Also, during the Sarah bond interview when she was asked about the 4 games they were experimenting and SOT’s success she kind of implied it was still an ongoing thing. That is, they don’t seem to be yet done in the data gathering. In any case it’s early days all because of the recession.

Watching people implode, repeatedly, over the exact same information we have had for months…is…certainly something.

Yeah, I get you. But at the same time…they say a lot.

I just hope they won’t rush this now, it’s impossible to tell. Not much new to find here, earlier this year we already knew anything was being considered. Our own Era had an article about Starfield and Indiana. Oh I guess the new thing is that their new direction has a name, yay.

I see folks on sm going wild with “watch Gears 6 announced as day one PS5” and there is no way we are at that point yet. I do wonder if it stays at the four games this year or if they announce more in the coming months.

It’s really getting tiring seeing all that FUD to be honest

Yeah people should be used to frustration by now when it comes to being a fan of this platform. I think back to Phil’s comments about Xbox division being like a “garage band”. Well I guess they played a bit too loudly and got the attention of papa MS who now wants treat it like a Surface Tablet.

I mean, if Xbox is the flagship product and still sells 20-30 million and then you have Asus, Lenovo, HP, MSI, etc plus custom builders adding millions of more users to the ecosystem, in the end you’d still grow the marketshare, just not through a singular box. I don’t think the concept in itself is bad, it’s the upcoming execution that will make or break it and we have yet to see the full plan.

Sarah already said new nextgen hardware coming one focused on gamers. I would think next one will be it from there the hardware will be open to all electronic makers like Samsung and LG assuming the next TVs aren’t built with in game tech to not need a console.

I really hope so. If they can manage to make it work this way, fine with me. But maybe I’m being too optimistic, I don’t know.

Let me just play my games on my hardware of choice, and if the future indeed is all games coming to Nintendo and Sony too, and devs not abandoning Xbox it’s ok. No I do not like that IP that ARE the face of Xbox will go to Nintendo and Sony, but Phil wasn’t clowning around when he basically said the future is = no exclusives. How close that future is…

True. And I just hope these plans remain, I mean if Satya were to just decide nah, let’s just stop it all. Ain’t a thing Bond can do about it. Hopefully he’s not that drastic, lmfao.

I feel like the 3D0 attempted something similar and we all know how that worked out.

You still have executives there that are not for this. I say let them cook. Spencer understood how bad things were during the 2013 debacle and worked to get Xbox out from under Myerson and the windows division. I do recall some years ago Booty saying there were like 2 on the Board of Microsoft that favored Phil. I think Phil and his team will get through this challenge. They may need to do certain things, but I think they know what to do. They haven’t gone third party so I doubt you will see Gears 6 anytime on PS5.

It would need flagship experience for the hardware to really sell for the audience, its not just the hardware that needs to be appealing but the games that can make folks desire for it and the way for that to really work is to make it an exclusive.

At least thats my opinion.

Then how do they make money scrapping the brand pretty much means they loose a ton of expertise in this field remember what happened to STADIA and just how tough it’s been for LUNA. They don’t have a real good foothold on PC or Mobile and without Xbox as the backbone and foundation it all crumbles. Satya and Amy aren’t stupid neither are they dictators it all falls on the board at the end. I do think the hardware is actually more important for other reasons, one being it might be their biggest entry to delivering A.I to consumers and Sarah’s interview was actually supposed to be tech focused as Open AI CFO was also there and interviewed on the same day and he made mention of gaming.

I don’t believe there are going to be many years of new hardware. The hardware team might work on something but that doesn’t mean it’s actually going to happen.

And if there’s new hardware who’s going to sell it? Retailers here in Europe sure as hell aren’t.

They’re going to pull a Sega. Sega also said that they would continue to support their own hardware when they announced their multiplatform plans but as we know they didn’t because they had no money. Now…with Xbox: We know MS has all the money but it’s clear that they don’t intend to lose more money on hardware. They just don’t want to.

They’ve also cultivated their fan base to not buy games.

They’re not pulling the plug yet because they still need the core customers to spend money in the ecosystem while the business is transitioning. That’s all.

TLDR a codename exists for more ports. That’s the news.

So the next batch will be more games like the ones you’d expect. What falls under this though?

SoT made sense, Grounded as well. What else is left that is similar and makes sense? Forza? It’s online, but also has SP. Also is a flagship title though.

I fully expect MS will go full third party and it’ll be called Microsoft Gaming

I was doing some research and I came to the realization that nearly all big publishers basically rely on a few core franchises

Lets look at the biggest darlings in the industry right now, Sega and Capcom

Sega announced that they want to release annual LAD, Persona and Sonic games

https://www.thegamer.com/sega-reportedly-wants-persona-sonic-the-hedgehog-like-a-dragon-to-be-annual-yearly-releases-insider-claim/

Sounds like Sega has their core franchises and occasionally will put out something new like Unicorn Overlord and Metaphor

Capcom? Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter being the big one and maybe some smaller known IP like Ace Attorney

If we look at Nintendo they basically have one successful new IP in the last decade and that’s Splatoon

Microsoft has really pushed for new IPs and some have been very successful like Sea of Thieves an Grounded but I believe Microsoft really is going to want to focus on the big money maker IP they have, and there are A LOT of them

Off the top of my head

Halo, Gears, Forza, Grounded, Sea of Thieves, Outer Worlds, Age of Empires, Flight Simulator, Minecraft, Doom, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, COD, Crash, Spyro, Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, Overwatch
