Yeah, it makes a farce of the category. I guess any game that releases a dlc will qualify now? Not to sound like a broken record, but the Game Awards are meaningless and the show exists purely as a marketing vehicle.

I feel that Hogwarts omission was helped by “so many games” that I won’t be surprised the outlets were like “Oh thank God, there’s so many games. We can count out Hogwarts with that excuse.”

There’s a clear preference for RPG’s, Action games and adventure games. If your game isn’t in one of these genres it might as well not exist. The same thing happened this year with Street Fighter 6(which got a 92 on Opencritic, but is barely nominated to anything). It’s ridiculous
Unless you have the Nintendo nostalgia pass and manage to get Super Smash Bros nominated lol
It seems like cyberpunk falls into the best dlc category if there was an award for that. Games like forza horizon 5, GT7, sea of thieves, and grounded deserve that spot more

Yeah, here’s the thing: if Cyperpunk receiving an expansion or performance-improving patches justifies its nomination, then that means nearly every game is an ongoing game… which seems to run counterintuitive to the entire category. But that’s TGAs in a nutshell, nothing means anything and the points are all bullshit lol.

Im quite surprise at the numbers of awards Xbox got this year and at how many nominations Hi-fi rush received! I was sure everyone would have forgotten that little gem and then you see it with the same nominations as Zelda.
That best ongoing game category needs to disappear though. If they arent going the put effort on it and just copy-paste the same exact shit every year why bother? You know cyberpunk got randomly added jut to give it at least some award lol

Many Xbox games that actually deserved that award, giving it to Cyberpunk is just flat out stupid, hope Rockstar drops the GTA6 trailer during the TGA show, not in it but during the TGA show, that should tank the ratings lol.
I know they probably wouldn’t do it though.
In my opinion, Keighley should add the following categories for game of the year -
- Best New IP of the year.
- DLC/expansion of the year
- Remake/Remaster of the year

I should expect that Geoff Keighley isn’t pleased that Starfield wasn’t nominated for GoTY. For one thing it means that other than the other awards that Xbox have games nominated for, Xbox fans aren’t really invested in the show. There’s no reason for an Xbox fan to keep watching to the very end.
I also mentioned in the Starfield discourse thread that it’s not a good look for only two of the three major console game manufacturers to be represented in the GoTY award. Keighley may allegedly be more favourable towards other consoles, but this is business, and it’s not wise to piss off one company, especially one that is as big as Xbox.
Phil Spencer will be entirely professional about this, he knows that Keighley doesn’t have the pull to overrule the selection judges, but I am pretty sure he’ll drop a little word about the situation.
If I was Spencer I’d be asking favours from Keighley to drop trailers for Halo Infinite 2024’s seasons and Flight Simulator 2024 in front of the ongoing game awards, especially mentioning that Flight Simulator is the longest running and supported game series in history.
I would also be investing in the DICE awards as well. I think Starfield and Hifi Rush will get a little bit more love from the developers, but a little more sponsorship wouldn’t hurt. After all, TGA’s isn’t the only games show in town.

Same. TGA is a must watch for me though. I like my misery porn. Which is also the reason why I’m a huge TLOU and Xbox fan.

Also speaking of Alan wake 2 and re4…the discourse around them is fucking hilarious.
Its so evident so many people didnt even fucking play re4 and are using recency bias to criticise AW2
The game that should have the most questions is mario wonder. Great game but lazy boss designs and some terrible late level designs sink it for me
