Now fix the subject title.

Given these numbers should be reasonably easy to get via SteamDB or something, it’s odd two forecasters come up with such different figures - this is an article about “The Game Business” figures (which funnily enough is the same place that reckons console buyers still pick most based on exclusives, not on which one they had previously and forgetting that their target audience are likely to be biased away from casual gamers):

As far as I can tell, it’s likely because they’re both guess work. With different data points that give them different results.

I know recently one of Bloombergs writers acknowledged Alinea Analytics numbers as being correct. Because they saw the numbers for Marathon and supposively confirmed it with someone from Bungie.

But I’m still on the fence with their numbers and say they’re not 100% accurare, like with VGchartz, they come somewhat within the rught number but are never 100%.

Also, the fact that exclusives lost 8% share from last year and friends is now only 3% behind really didn’t register for people.

Yep I’ve got a feeling that exclusives poll is highly skewed though anyway, as they’re likely asking gamers not casuals, and given the same people said Ghost of Tsushima sold 700k on Steam they seem to know fuck all as at least 4 other places reckon 2.7m (Alinea plus the 3 in this link https://steamdb.info/app/2215430/charts/)

Yeah, short of Sony releasing that data no one really has a perfect system to account for those sales. In tbe US only, Circana likely comes close.

They can probably guess a bit given many Steam libraries are public, then randomly sample them to see how many have the game - a bit like Steam’s hardware survey

I’d imagine the 2.7m number is more accurate than the 700k, that site seems to exist almost purely to feed Sony talking points - exclusives matter, PlayStation doesn’t sell well on PC so no point, etc etc

I do not trust that guy and his “company” Alinea.

I’m of the mind that they do have data, similar to so many other data analysis companies and just like them, don’t really have a fully accurate number.
