Valve still expects to ship the Steam Machine in 2026

Article updated, they changed the wording

I’m honestly just curious about the final pricing. I feel like it’ll set the stage for the Xbox Helix and possibly even PS6.

You know what, it would be funny if Xbox Helix and the OEM versions all launch before the Steam Machine because of this horrible RAM situation.

Edit: Just saw the update, I guess we will see if they ship it this year and if they can make enough of them to make it seem like a successful launch(about 1.6 million I would say would be considered pretty good).

I had the Alienware Alpha back in the day. That was the original Steam Machine. I used Microsoft Windows on mine though. Not sure I want a Linux operating system.

I still think it sells well to those who really want it but It’s already weaker then current gen consoles and if Helix is really coming out next year then the longer they wait the less attractive it becomes in my opinion anyways.

I mean, it was never attractive to anyone but the Steam superfans. Most of Steam’s own users are on Windows. This will sell comparable to the Steam Deck, as in not that much in the grand scheme of things but pretty good considering it’s a Linux gaming PC and more than good enough for what Valve is after. Though we can also probably expect gamers online to be really really annoying about how absolutely amazing the device is .

Oh them being annoying is already in the cards considering they’ve glazed the steam machine before it ever came out and they hate Helix before seeing it and saying it’s just going to be filled with AI slop” lol.

I don’t put much stock into social media in the way they talk about Xbox but it’s like how all of those same people pretend gaming on Windows is awful all of sudden just in time for this

There is some crossover with this steam machine and helix customer base. I bet xbox told them they would stay out of their way for a Q1 launch. But now that the sm is delayed, xbox may steal some customers once they announce the helix specs.

Considering MS will probably be getting a much bigger chip allocation for their system, I’m guessing they’ll be able to have a better price overall considering the specs they’ll have VS the Steam Machine?

What Valve announced is great, but if it gets anywhere close to 1000$, that’ll be very disappointing considering the specs.

The good thing with the Valve SM is that it’s not something “on the line”, for Valve, it’s not a make or break, it’s just an option for already Steam users who have PCs, and Valve itself will not really hurt based on its performance in the market.

A bit unrelated, but I’m actually giving Bazzite a go on my old laptop to see what it’s like on the other side. My current library being mostly built on a mix of Steam and Xbox Store would make it hard for me to switch entirely to it, but I want to see what the fuss is all about.

Maybe with Helix as a secondary console/PC, I could afford to play using both and not miss out on anything!
