Wow, there’s actually a lot to talk about this week! I don’t remember the last time so many new SKUs occupied the top 10. I even contributed to this week’s top 10 with an import of Ys X on Switch, which I unboxed here:
Dragon Quest Dai is by far, the worst opening for a DQ game, and the PS4/5 versions didn’t even chart. Bad game and big flop unfortunately. Thankfully for the brand, there is DQ Monsters 3 coming in December, which has significantly more excitement behind it and had positive demo reception, so I’m expecting big JP sales for that.
Fate Samurai/Remnant Switch version is the leading SKU, even though the performance on Switch is quite rough. This goes to show that A. “4K/120FPS Ray Tracing” isn’t a massive selling point in this market, and B. Because Koei Tecmo supports Switch on almost everything they make and have been doing so since the launch of Switch, they have built a solid audience there.
In contrast, Ys X Switch is actually a very solid port, but is still behind PS, because this is the first ever new Falcom game developed for Switch. They waited very long to target the platform, and so their audience is smaller there. I assume after we see the PS4 version sales it’ll be around a total of 45k or so which lines up with the last few Falcom releases, so many of the Switch buyers could be people who would have just bought on PS (like me lol), but there also likely would have been a noticeable decline from Ys IX had they not done it.
On the hardware side, Xbox is still managing to not fall back into ~1k territory, so that’s great.
