Video Game Market Analysis Thread

Isn’t Microsoft still going to do their own R&D on getting these results. It’s not like they have to depend on just what AMD or any of these vendors have. The Xbox velocity architecture is custom not AMD tech. I liked the DF commentary, but I don’t think there is a chance where working with Nvidia could be viable. Also, if Apple with their phones is serious about making a play here wouldn’t it be then best to go with a vendor in that space. I think Microsoft engineers are aware of all DF talked about and are capable.

The cyberpunk turnaround is epic . We don’t see it that often

I think it has always sold very well?

Game sold gangbusters. One could argue that it did get some hefty discounts fairly quickly in its shelf-life, but it’s a big sellerregardless.

Yeah it did , but also had a lot of returns due to state of console version. The game was good last year with the update imo. However, the narrative about the game completely changed . Plus, it’s getting a revival in sales and more sales to come

My console version worked great.

I think this is just more of a second round of great sales with the expansion release. CDPR must be very pleased.

Great game!

You know at this point, they don’t need to go after other market. By that point, it’s all just want to than a must to.

Yeah just look at king

https://venturebeat.com/games/king-celebrates-candy-crush-sagas-15000th-level-and-20b-in-revenue/

Candy Crush has been the top-grossing game franchise in the U.S. app stores for six years in a row . Continued investments in major brand partnerships have enabled King and Candy Crush to stay at the heart of pop culture.

Designed to be played in short bursts, Candy Crush Saga players have collectively completed more than five trillion levels. A quick fun fact: if you were to add the distance of all the swipes completed in Candy Crush Saga over the last five years, you’d almost travel around the world seven times over.

People werent exagerating when saying King was half of thr value of ABK :V

Wow, there’s actually a lot to talk about this week! I don’t remember the last time so many new SKUs occupied the top 10. I even contributed to this week’s top 10 with an import of Ys X on Switch, which I unboxed here:

Dragon Quest Dai is by far, the worst opening for a DQ game, and the PS4/5 versions didn’t even chart. Bad game and big flop unfortunately. Thankfully for the brand, there is DQ Monsters 3 coming in December, which has significantly more excitement behind it and had positive demo reception, so I’m expecting big JP sales for that.

Fate Samurai/Remnant Switch version is the leading SKU, even though the performance on Switch is quite rough. This goes to show that A. “4K/120FPS Ray Tracing” isn’t a massive selling point in this market, and B. Because Koei Tecmo supports Switch on almost everything they make and have been doing so since the launch of Switch, they have built a solid audience there.

In contrast, Ys X Switch is actually a very solid port, but is still behind PS, because this is the first ever new Falcom game developed for Switch. They waited very long to target the platform, and so their audience is smaller there. I assume after we see the PS4 version sales it’ll be around a total of 45k or so which lines up with the last few Falcom releases, so many of the Switch buyers could be people who would have just bought on PS (like me lol), but there also likely would have been a noticeable decline from Ys IX had they not done it.

On the hardware side, Xbox is still managing to not fall back into ~1k territory, so that’s great.

86% came from digital sales, sheesh

Yeah, I think people sleep on how important it is to get those early editions for a game like fifa. They build the game around ultimate team, and people want get those 4600points and early access to beat out others. Plus, you don’t want to be 5 days behind, so people just opt for digital version, so you don’t have to worry about arriving late. Also, I think an underrated thing is people prefer multiplayer games digital, so they don’t have to swap discs and the convenience is unmatched.

I am unsure if other genres can create that feeling, but I think sports games rely heavily on points above. Also, it doesn’t shock me that both Sony and Microsoft are planning to do digital consoles revisions because gamers have for the most part adopted digital ownership of games

I’d say alot of copies of FIFA are also sold in the weeks coming upto Xmas as well. I’d love to see the total amount sold by the end of December.

So I was lurking the Xbox OT from other era and found this post from Idas:

This is from document PX1889, from the June leak, the “State of the Business - June 2022”.

It’s interesting how MS expects to be number 1 by global gaming revenue (“Our ambition is to reach industry leadership”) by 2030 .

With ABK they’ll be number 3, quite close to Sony (number 2) and not far from Tencent (number 1). Are 7 years enough to achieve that ambition without more big moves?

With ABK they will have everything needed to improve and achieved their console, PC, mobile and Cloud plans but will they manage to that in the next 6 years? It seems Xbox’s average yearly revenue hangs between $14 Billion to $15 Billion+ with $16 Billion being their highest :

image

Activision’s annual revenue is more than $8 billion:

https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/ATVI/activision-blizzard/revenue#:~:text=Activision%20Blizzard%20revenue%20for%20the%20twelve%20months%20ending%20June%2030,a%208.87%25%20increase%20from%202020.

But we have to take into account a lot of factors when ACTI is under Xbox’s roof such as how much impact will have its revenue considering gamepass and Xbox now taking %100 sales from the console, Nintendo…etc. But in a “best” scenario, currently Xbox would be making between $23billion to $25Billion+ in revenue.

Do you think their plans are enough to reach those goals or they will go the “more acquisition” route? I think with ports coming to Ninty, start receiving the PS money, the mobile APP and money from mobile stores, their PC and cloud plans are enough to help them achieve their objective or at least being really close to that, but what do I know.

For context: Tencent makes around $27 billion+ to more than $30 billion on revenue and PS always $20billion + with $26billions+ being their highest and the want to made $30billions + this fiscal year.
