You might have heard the rumours, it’s time to reveal what we are working on.

:world_map: An open world Middle-earth RPG. :crossed_swords: A new Kingdom Come adventure.

We’re excited to tell you more when the time is right.

That’s some great news! I do hope they change combat for the Middle-Earth game because while I definitely enjoy it in KCD, we probably need something different for that IP.

That’d be amazing. With Monolith gone I was worried I’d never fall in love with a middle earth RPG again.

That’s a neat pairing though I think it will be a slow, methodical dialogue heavy RPG while many will be wanting an action game with Aragorn where this will probably start you as a relatively nobody in Middle-Earth

I honestly have been confused that no one ever put out an Open World RPG based on the books/movies.

Could easily put in alot more details from the books and make it super interesting

My question exactly also on A Song of Ice and Fire. There’s so much world, lore and history to make an interesting RPG around.

Most studios and publishers just don’t want to do licensed IP. It’s more expensive and you have less control and creative freedom over the game. With AAA game development now as long and expensive as it is, it also just sucks knowing that eventually your game will be delisted unless you make a really good licensed deal (which the Witcher author has already lamented their lack of foresight, so probably not gonna see that lenient of a deal again). Licensed IP are starting to come back after a long drought for the same reason everything is familiar franchises (familiar franchises and known names). For Middle Earth there was also WB Games so less of a need for outside licensed games that’d be more limited in how deals are handled.

They hope to bring the new KC game next fiscal year

Warhorse promises that Middle-earth RPG is a ‘passion project’ that ‘will be a living world’ with a ‘strong narrative focus’

This is so damned exciting, man. I can’t wait to see their version of Middle Earth and everything in it. I hope it has everything the LOTR movies have too, from orcs to elves and such.
