It’s really interesting for this to be made into an Xbox Wire post. Interesting because it seems intentional and strategic. The name change was never really front facing and seemed functional for the purpose of allowing them to aquire ABK and keep ABK and Zenimax integration more limited as they gradually absorbed them. The vision and strategy described also doesn’t go like, “We’re going to pull back from Xbox Everywhere and go back to the Xbox 360 days. “ No it says they’ll continue to evolve and go even harder with it pushing to improve on console, PC, mobile, and cloud. She references the 500 million gamers that’s impossible without including multiplatform.

What does Xbox become in this next era?

Xbox will be where the world plays and creates. We will build a global platform that connects players and creators everywhere. Console is at the foundation, delivering a premium experience, and cloud brings that experience to any device. You can play where you want, and your games, progress, friends, and identity stay with you across console, PC, mobile, and cloud.

This is “Xbox Everywhere” repackaged slightly (using different wording) and more boldly shouted from the rooftops. That’s not bad at all. This vision is why I’m glad to stay with Xbox as my preferred platform. And I hope that Sharma is better able to market and communicate the value of it to gamers in addition to continuing to improve Xbox’s execution of its evolution.

I like what I am reading, so far Asha made some really good moves and she has the best ecosystem in the console space in her hands…hopefully she will grow and improve the platform even further, that’s what we all want in the end and that’s what matters.

Xbox being a strong player in the industry is not only good for all of us who invested a ton of time and money to this ecosystem but even from an enthusiast point of view Xbox being strong and competitive can only be a good thing for the industry as a whole.

Interesting but i don’t see much difference with the path they were taking lately. I think being and releasing games where the world is, and being a hardware manufacturer isn’t compatible anymore.

Not sure what their expectations with Project Scorpio are, i understand a part of the Xbox players will move there too, but who else? If they keep releasing their games everywhere, PS6 will be the platform with the most AAA games while Steam and PC will be the store/platform with the best indie catalogue and most customization, with many ways to get there.

Still curious about E3 and the logos from the games shown and platforms on their next game announcements tho it seems it’s not changing much, but we’ll see

Assuming it’s not all smoke and mirrors and it sure looks like that’s the case…..the scary, big bad AI person is changing things for Xbox in a good way.

It shall be quite interesting to see how it all pans out, it sure does not sound bad.

I am curious too, how the new games are going to be show, we are going to see other consoles like Playstation and Switch in the announcements? Asha will talk more about the Helix? This year is going to be interesting to see.

It does seem that exclusivity isn’t off the table at all.

Along the way, we will reevaluate our approach to exclusivity.

If they were to make that decision it would be quite different already. If that would be a wise one…. I’m not sure. The decision to go into a new direction was made for a reason. Do we know how well PS5 copies of their games old overall? Was it worth it?

Cool. I always feel a little weird about the word “gaming” because of its association with gambling.

Glad to see some Nadella’s ideas on gaming are getting thrown to the wayside. Yes, I totally suspected that Nadella wanted the change to further associate Microsoft with gaming.

How was MS gaming used before? Can’t say I recall ever seeing it. Like MS flight sim or MS solitaire?

I mean Microsoft Gaming was never really a brand? It was just the placeholder name for an imaginary parent company to tie Xbox, Zenimax, and ABK together. I just thought it existed for that CEO position. I also thought it existed because Microsoft knew they couldn’t immediately fully integrate ABK (and that did end up becoming a promise they made to courts (to keep it possible to divest ABK if necessary)). Otherwise the branding has remained Xbox. They didn’t start calling it the “Microsoft Gaming showcase”. It makes sense for it just to be Xbox if things are more integrated now. And yeah at first Bethesda was more independent and then Matt Booty oversaw it; at first Activision and Blizzard were more independent and now he oversees them as well for everything regarding video game content. Now let’s hope this means they’ve also added Xbox logos to everything.
