We Are Xbox - Asha Sharma And Matt Booty's Message To The Teams (Xbox Wire)

Did you watch the latest id@Xbox show. I think there was a lot there and many of them are even going to PlayStation. They’re all Play Any Where as well. I’d say I’d like to see her do something original from the start or ground up. I’d like to see initiatives that bring games like NG4. Xbox was able to bring some amazing games like ORI and CUPHEAD when they were broke, I would love to see more high-quality indies like that.

Agreed. If it wasn’t for Phil, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion because Xbox would have been shut down in 2017/2018.

Just be thankful that the transition is not to someone who still doesn’t get what the platform needs. Some would say that’s what PS is going through now.

So CoD was removed but may comeback as an add on? I don’t remember if that was part of Jez’s original reporting on rumors though.

Wasn’t a rumor, just off the cuff speculation

If it’s just speculation than no, I doubt they’ll bring back CoD outside of the end of the year, but I also doubt most that played CoD through game pass will be buying the new one this year or next year.

Agreed, as it being an add on still doesn’t get past the potential issue of someone subbing to it only for a month or two around CoD’s release

They already have it available as an addon, for $70 one time charge.

Yep and they reduced the sub by enough to cover it, so doesn’t feel like they need to do anything

Was thinking about a key difference between phil and asha. phil has been in the gaming scene for decades. He understands the strategies, thecustomer, the tribalism, the wars. The whole history of it. Basically has seen it all and with that knowledge seemed to be directing the ship in a non traditional way. no more exclusives, next gen to be opened up, play on any device. It was a, we are going to do our own thing strategy. He didn’t care what playstation did or didn’t do. Xbox was going to blaze its own trail going forward.

Asha doesn’t have any of that history. Sure, people are telling her the history and lessons learned but living it is a different thing. I have no doubts booty has told her to spend ps out of business once or twice already.

I bring this up b/c people are trying to read in between the lines on a typical corporate response she gave in an interview and a strategy backtracking narrative has been created. Rethink exclusives. Dodged the multi store helix question so that means she is backtracking.

I’m someone that really liked the spencer vision we were finally seeing develop. What if asha is like, of course exclusives make sense to make everyone sell their playstations and buy an xbox. Then she askes the team if they are aware of the term moneyhat and they should start doing that.

Asha seems pretty smart and I really don’t think this will happen. But I found some humor thinking xbox just goes full circle back to the old strategies. Then in 10 years we are all still on this forum discussing this same topic and saying we were so close to getting out of the traditional console ways. so close!

This was my greatest fear too and why the Xbox Wire post was really umm “comfortjng”. With Phil’s vision of reaching 2 billion+ gamers I was really on board with Xbox Play Anywhere and the console, cloud, mobile, and PC larger ecosystem, which Sharma said they’ll go harder in for all areas. Like I’m glad she immediately shut down rumors of giving up on the mobile store, and I’m glad that she see’s PC and Cloud as major growth sectors Xbox needs to improve the experience of. At least that aspect she’s confirmed they aren’t backtracking on. Exclusives I care less about. Either way is whatever for me. As long as Xbox doesn’t end up like Playstation where the awful margins and numerous game failures shuts down a lot of studios and leads to a worse pipeline.
