Unfortunately, I haven’t picked up my switch in a very long while, and because of that I made the choice to leave it at home while I’ve been abroad. I only brought my Xbox Series S, Steam Deck, and Lenovo Legion Go to game on. Though honestly I probably could’ve left the Steam Deck home for the Switch. Idk why I brought that and the Legion Go (well I do, some sort of genius plan about swapping devices mid flight that never happened ). Anyway, it’ll be at least another 8 months minimum before I’m home again.
Though I haven’t played Pokémon in while. The last I remember finishing were Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire and the last I remember buying were Ultra Sun and Moon. Haven’t played any of the Switch games. Though Pokémon Dungeons is the one that tempted me the most. I remember having so much fun with it on DS. That and Pokémon Conquest. And Pokémon Ranger. And Hey You Pikachu (okay I like the spin offs ).
My current plan is to (hopefully) pick up the Switch 2 on sale after I return home and catch up on some favorites (hopefully, God willing that the market doesn’t keep increasing prices for old hardware )
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon DX? Yeah it’s pretty good. There’s a fair few Pokemon games on Switch if you’re interested. I never played Pokemon Conquest but it looks great.
I have a small backlog/collection of games for the Switch 1 and I said I wouldn’t get a Switch 2 until I’ve atleast gone through those. Cool thing Metroid Prime 4 and Legends Z-A received Switch 1 versions heh
Ironically Japan for work. Which also makes it harder to buy a Switch because those are language locked with special Japanese hardware versions because the strength of the Yen isn’t… great.
Making oneself get through all the games I have on one console before buying the next is probably the best way to save ones wallet (at least for me definitely). On the Switch I only actually finished Xenoblade Chronicles 2 & Astral Chain . Then there’s a bunch of other games I bought and never finished (like Fire Emblem Three Houses) and some I could still buy and play (like Bayonetta 3).
It’s a program I applied for and got out of university called JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) to teach English in Japan. The job isn’t the best (I have my negative words on “how” Japan tackles teaching English & approaches English (and critical thinking)). But it’s probably the best way to stay in Japan for a period of time if that’s what you’re really interested in. Though, if you just want to travel and see Japan just go for it. The Yen is umm… struggling right now. Japan engages in some interesting financial tactics (one of which is literally financing themselves through a bank that they own majority stock in). And other reasons I’m sure. But anyway, most currencies go far when exchanged for yen these days. And domestic products and services are cheaply priced in comparison. Japan is also probably one of the few countries where everyone really really tries to speak English (like really it’s harder if you try to speak Japanese especially in tourist populated areas like Tokyo) when they see foreigners… even if they don’t super know it themselves (plus technology).
AWW really? Astral Chain is still one of my favorite games ever. Loved the story and setting and I so desperately wish we got a sequel with more legions. Loved the setting, being a police detective in an action RPG, and the gameplay (I got really into the action endgame and post game). Right up there with Kid Icarus Uprising for my top Nintendo exclusives.
Reviving this thread to recommend Silent Hill 2 if you enjoy survival horror games. I’m only a few hours in but have been utterly engrossed so far. It’s very tense and atmospheric to the point of almost being suffocating.
Finished Pokemon Legends Z-A. Gonna take a break for a while then do postgame content. I’m on chapter 2 of xenoblade chronicles 3 and day 8 of Pikmin 3
From a quick search the issues people have is the camera bobbing too much and distance. But there’s no fix for the for the first problem and the second one requires playing on PC. To usr Flawless Wide Screen or an FOV changer for the game on github.
Yeh just as i started playing i had a sudden memory of this being called out in a review or chat somewhere.. it might be a showstopper, its to much, constantly an issue.
I thankfully don’t have an issue with the bobbing, but I also have the opposite problem with the camera to the people I found talking about it. I think the camera is too far away, instead of too close.
If Dontnod ever updates the settings to give people more control of these 2 issues. I really hope they allow for a closer camera as well.
Maybe im just a gamer from afar nowadays … i put 2 hours into Prince of Persia today and i just cannot get excited, the script in the cutscenes just feels and sounds so basic and lame, then the hack n slash gameplay just doesnt cut it for me. Man, where to from here haha.
Someone recommend me something that has juice to it like RD2 or Cyberpunk had.
How about BG3? It’s a pretty meaty RPG, turned based and with a lot of choices and redundancies in case things went in a way that’s not the expected.
If the focus on the heavy dice rolls isn’t to your liking, you could try Divinity Original Sin 2, Larians previous game that focuses less on the dice mechanics.
I would also recommend The Outer Worlds 2, even if some of the hardcore RPG gamers probably don’t think the RPG of it isn’t very extensive. But personally, I think that it’s very heavy on the RPG, just dials back some of the immersive gameplay(carry weight, stamina management, less negative effects). I remember some people reading that the first area, Fairfield, wasn’t to their liking, but I don’t understand what was wrong with it, as we can solve the issues on the area multiple ways.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is another good game that launched this year, I really enjoyed my time with it and thought the story was good. It was just the ending that didn’t do much for me. The gameplay is simple enough, we are given active control of dodging and parrying like in Mario RPG, with QTE’s that do more damage if we get them perfect for skills.
I’m waiting for the turn base update for Pillars of Eternity before trying it out because I can’t seem to grasp the active combat that Obsidian uses in it.
