Need a break from Dynasty Warriors. Went back to old games: Fable III, Lego Star Wars TCS and Psychonauts. I also finished F.E.A.R. 3
Currently at 18 hours in Crimson Desert. I’ve been umm actively avoiding the main quest (especially since I got my first comrade and can’t do it with her). I mostly spent my time going around the map and climbing mountains and umm, well the game wasn’t happy with me. Well it probably doesn’t have personal feelings, but I did keep getting a lady’s voice saying “Patience is a virtue you little shit.” (might be paraphrasing) everytime I came to a place I didn’t have the necessary story acquired skill to complete. A lot of shrines. The combat isn’t too difficult thankfully and cooking enough items helps a lot. I still turned it to story difficulty when my opponents became wyvern riders and mechanical monstrosities with zappy powrrs, shooting fire beams, and I saw a freaking tank. Anyway I rode a train, got a wyvern egg, umm accidentally went to the Black Bears, ran away from a something something maybe shadow knight, went to the relic school, saw a Buddhist temple, and you can call me John Crimson mast of the desert. Don’t get mad at me but I kinda feel like one of those Starfield reviews. Like I haven’t put in two hundred hours, but I do keep waiting for the game to be fun like everyone else says it will be. Currently it’s just tedious. Hopefully flying fixes that. In theory I just need to bunker down and the do story but it’s so so boring
. I’m sorry the changes have not fixed it for me. Not that I played the original story but still it’s a slog. I’m currently on the part where the two Black Bears went to the Noble house. Anyway I have a flying Wyvern mount now, so maybe that’ll fix the game for me.
Overwatch has been my go to casual game, but I’m probably playing it too much. I’m at the point where my game stats stoke my ego too much. Plus I queue for all roles which means tank or healer which means I just watch everyone else go get themselves killed. Also what hasn’t changed from 2016 is no one playing the objective.
Finally went back to Dead Space Remake. I’d completed it multiple times years back. Started a new game and at first something felt wrong…then it hit me. This is a game that fucking DEMANDS to be played with headphones, because of what a delight the audio is. I mean it’s terrifyingly horrific audio, but THAT’S the delight ![]()
The good news is puzzles are no longer the worst part of Resonance. Bad news is because the worst part is now having to either stealthily sneak by, or run from a minoataur fuck face that one hit kills you if it gets you. The worse thing is that that bullshit mechanichas progressed to these Pompeii looking “petrified” ass clowns. And I know that it’s meant to be cool/creepy, but it’s just fucking ANNOYING and sucking all the enjoyment out of the game
If you walk slowly by crouching and hide behind objects when it does its thing, it can’t see you. If you’re careful, he can’t do anything to you.
I was annoyed at first when I got to that point and thought it would be another one of these games, but it was way less annoying than Aphelion was.
Been playing Cyberpunk 2077 on the Switch 2, so far so good, but while playing in handheld mode, the console is not very comfortable (I have never found any handheld comfortable to be fair), and makes playing games feel obtuse.
That experience immediately gets better when I separate the joycons from the screen, it’s way more comfortable to use.
Edit: Although I feel I should try to get good settings for the use of motion controls, and try to use them, Cyberpunk is the type of games that can be used for helping me get used to different types of controls because of how much there is to do.
Just finished Dawnwalker which was a very good RPG i recommend to everyone looking for something in that genre, very well rounded game, it ain’t weak in any of it’s parts.
And now i reinstalled the GOAT of tactic games, XCOM2 for a new run in Ironman until i lose a few runs and get bored, i got Star Wars Zero Company on launch and sorry but i don’t get how it’s rated at 86/100, it’s not a bad game but i wouldn’t recommend this one sadly
Dawnwalker looks too janky for me and I’m currently playing through Skyrim with no combat or movement mods.
Agree 100%. I really enjoyed Legacy but it’s ranked 3rd for me in the Plague Tale games. Requiem is #1 and Innocence is #2.
Crimson Desert is much improved with a flying mount. I also switched to playing the second playable character. I love the more speedy combat and hand to hand with them. Though I don’t think I’ll ever do the main story. I’m just flying around doing shit I’m guessing I’m not supposed to for a few more chapters.
Combat’s quite frenetic, it looked boring in gameplay videos but on Duelist difficulty it’s intense and you can change the parry timer even in that difficulty if you find it hard.
IMO one of the best combats in a WRPG, it helps that they nailed the balance, gear and progression, and there’s a decent amount of skills.
Jankiest thing is movement, wouldn’t say it’s bad but it’s not too smooth either, and well, it’s a bit buggy and you can tell it’s not super high budget, but it’s not too bad.
So I had a moment in Resonance where I needed to get passed the petrified that kept coming alive and one touch kill animation…ing me. I got so mad, I was like “fuck it, I’m just gonna run passed them” and they all came alive and ran at me. So I ran around in a Three Stooges like circle and noticed they cleared the path. So I went through it…level ended…because apparently THAT was what I was supposed to do …oops

Good old dark souls just run through the area game design.
just picked up Monster Hunter Wilds on sale. Seems alright so far, Generations Ultimate was my favorite. Also gonna play Dead Cells and Darkest Dungeon, and replaying Resident Evil Village
Just started chapter 13 of Resonance and…I gotta…I got to stop for now. This game is incredible, but a couple things happened that are just too friggin sad. So I’m going to call it a night

Completed Marvel’s Wolverine. Played on easy difficulty. 94% completion overall on the save file even though I completed every mission 100%. Took me approximately 20 hours to complete over a three day span.
Visually, the game looks excellent and character models looks great even though a few faces may be off to some people. Environments and enemy models look great. No issues here. Audio wise, the music is great as are the sound effects and the voice acting is excellent. Like with visuals, no issues here.
Story and characters can be a mixed bag for some and while very predictable early on, I really enjoyed it overall. The characters are all excellent in my opinion and the writing while not amazing, is still great for the most part and better than Spider Man 2 in my opinion. The only negative I would have is that Logan is a little too nice/gentle/sweet/whatever you want to call it which isn’t what his character should be.
Gameplay and combat is where I have complaints, many complaints. First and foremost is the camera. It’s abysmal. Even with camera follow and combat assist camera set to “on”, the camera never rotates behind me unless I do it myself. I tested this early on in the game by running with Logan and having the camera facing his side. I did this four times and not once did the camera rotate behind me. During combat, it’s worse. There’s always enemies off-screen and the camera rarely faces them on it’s own. I don’t know if I missed another option or it’s just bugged/glitched for me.
After that and this part is evident during the boss fights and to a lesser extent, the basic enemies is the parrying. You really need to parry in this game in order to get through fights even on easy. It’s so you can stun the bosses and then inflict more damage. I personally don’t like parrying because im not good at all but also, I don’t see how it fits in with Wolverine as a character. He should just brute force over everyone in my opinion. There’s stealth which I used here and there but similar to parrying, I don’t see how this fits in with the Logan character. Other than that, it’s here and there.
Now onto the actual melee combat itself. It’s brutal, visceral and gory which is great and a lot of it is very satisfying but it’s nothing more than a button masher with a few combos thrown in. I unlocked every skill and adaptation and while some were cool, the actual depth isn’t there at all and the vast majority of skills and adaptations were basic outside of a few. Most of all though is that even on easy, basic enemy encounters can be a slog and drag because while im sure that you can get a better combination of outputting damage via those skills and adaptations, I wasn’t looking to experiment to find out. They’re all spongy and the bosses, my goodness. Three times as spongy and that’s on the easy difficulty level.
Speaking of the boss fights, we’ve all seen that Sentinel boss fight and yes, while the fight is that, it’s only the first phase of the fight. The fight in the second phase is a lot better. Boss fights in general outside of being spongy and reliant on parrying are actually pretty good. I think that at their core are pretty well designed but should have been balanced better in my opinion.
Next up is the platforming. It’s all on rails for the most part and you can only climb what the game lets you climb. Otherwise, you just slide right down to the ground. Logan has claws and in my opinion, the climbing should have been free form like AC Origins/Odyssey where unless it’s glass for obvious reasons, you should be able to climb it due to his claws.
On to the collectibles and HUD stuff. While I had to replay four missions to get 100% as I missed a freaking chest on three of them and a whiskey bottle on one of them, this is where you get XP for the most part to level up and the nightmare doors for the adaptation level points. I don’t know what the end result would be if you don’t do any of this stuff. When you do the nightmare doors, it does unlock the outfits which you can then use the points to acquire them. I had every outfit and claw set acquired along with every skill and adaptation. The nightmare doors are basically time trials where you can get the platinum award by beating the lowest time. I got the platinum award on every trial even though a few took a few tries due to me mistiming a jump. There’s basic combat encounters where you do a certain ability or attack and get the points needed before the time runs out, speed courses and my most hated - waves of enemies. These took 15+ minutes every time because the amount of points needed is 40000 to get the platinum and again, as I said earlier, im certain there’s better combinations that can inflict more damage and whatnot in the skill/adaptation trees, I wasn’t going to take the time to mix and match and whatnot.
As for the HUD, you can’t turn off the blue trail or the purple wires that take you to the collectibles and nightmare doors respectively. Even more so, you can’t turn off the enemy detection arrows or the enemy proximity glimmer that goes around the screen like in recent Assassin’s Creed entries. This for me was a negative because I like to turn all of that stuff off and having the blue/purple trails, it takes away the urge to explore which while granted, wouldn’t be much due to the levels being linear, they just make it worse.
As for the QTE’s, I actually did them but missed a few and they still completed. I think I only failed one if I remember correctly. I did fail chase sequences a few times due to wanting to look around to make sure that I didn’t miss any of the chests/bottles/doors. There’s also a “return to mission” prompt when going out of bounds which is so stupid. There’s a few QTE’s during boss fights and one in particular could have been fucking awesome if it wasn’t QTE based.
There’s also motorcycle chase sequences which would be pretty damn good but you can’t fail them as far as im aware and when you hit something including a car head on, you just bounce back into place and keep going. If anything, these should have been a cinematic because they serve no purpose.
Next up is the overall pacing and setup. As someone who’s become fatigued on Sony’s template, they really need to change it or have every franchise have it’s own setup. The constant slow walking, cinematic setup and just overall design is simply becoming old, outdated and obsolete because it’s been the same since Uncharted in 2007. Almost 20 years later, it’s time for a major and massive change in my opinion.
There’s also the early on HUB area where you talk to everyone and everything slows down completely or later on, there’s a mission where the beginning is like, “I have done this before in your games, almost exactly”. Simply, it’s all very pretentious.
That’s pretty much it, I think. lol
- Visuals - 9.0/10 (excellent)
- Audio - 9.0/10 (excellent)
- Gameplay/Combat - 5.0/10 (average)
- Story/Characters - 9.0/10 (excellent)
- Overall - 8.0/10 (great)
Overall, Marvel’s Wolverine is a great game carried by it’s visuals, environments/locations, music, voice acting (Troy Baker is the standout to no one’s surprise but they’re all really good) and at least for me, an excellent overall story that I enjoyed from beginning to end even though it’s very predictable. The combat simply has no depth, is very grindy due to the enemies being spongy and the overall gameplay is just simply past it’s time at least for me. The brutality and boss fights to an extent is the only things that was enjoyable.
