Please help me understand why its ok for Sony to flip flop and just decide on exclusives on a case by case basis and exclude PC and other consoles for certain types of 1st party games, why can Nintendo just decide to license their IP to other games on other platforms but when Xbox does it then they have no idea what they are doing but Sony and Nintendo have a master plan?
Why is Xbox always judged using different standards where Sony and Nintendo get moving goal posts to avoid criticism? Why cant Sony fans see of hypocritical they are?
Case by case always made more sense then trying to make all time defined statements where plans can change as the industry changes.
Why does Xbox have to back themselves in a corner always and never be able to adjust?
The Japanese console makers trained their fanbase like a Pavlov’s dog to heed their beck and call and, most importantly, not to question their business decisions. It’s probably also the fact that they were in the console market first helps with the zealotry. From Day one, Xbox/MS was always viewed as the outsider, so they were never going to get any slack.
Xbox’s key to success is to remain, which is why their haters so desperately want them to leave.
Because Sony wouldn’t be stupid enough to release Halo, Forza Horizon 6 and Fable on Xbox if they owned those IPs, 3 monster titles right there all on PS5, insanity.
People can agree or disagree on the strategy for any individual game, but yeah, they’ve always said case by case decision based on the individual game, but people still wanna be like, “They promised only four games on PS5”, They promised this, They promised that. Nah they didn’t.
Given how many devs MS now has, different IPS, Different genres etc. Case by case always made more sense, Sony makes one type of game and now has about 3 studios actively making games and they are still pretty much case by case.
So, in my opinion, they just need to stay the course. The Japanese console makers can’t stop the forward march of time. It’s been documented that consoles sales have tapered and, soon enough, will be in decline. High prices aren’t going to help, and it’s been documented that the younger generation doesn’t vibe with consoles anymore and are moving to PC (which is Microsoft’s domain, if we’re being real.) Their current strategy is to milk their current fanbase for all they’re worth.
Evidently there’s decisions made on different games. This is where we are. Closing the box isn’t going to happen, nor is it entirely inexplicable to have opened the box in the first place. This has been discussed three thousand times.
What case by case? in Sony it’s about GaaS on PC and maybe Xbox and Nintendo has nothing or almost nothing.
I can’t imagine an scenario where Sony announces a new GoW or Wolverine and has us wondering which platforms will they show before doing it, same for Nintendo with a Mario or DK
Yep, Xbox being console and pc and soon just pc under your tv is a much better long term plan given the current world we live in where PC is the only huge platform growth area.
PS only console owners are not going to be able to fund Sony’s 3rd person sad dad walking sims. Xbox will still have PC while Sony shrinks back to only one hardware platform in a shrinking console market.
To me it kind of says it all that warriors have latched on to making fun of the phrase “the plan is the plan until it’s not the plan anymore” like it was some kind of crazy thing to say. It’s a nothing phrase that literally just means they won’t do the same thing every time, they’ll make whatever they feel is the right decision for that game. If anyone but an Xbox exec had said that sentence, no one would have given it a second thought.
Yea why do they need to tie themselves to only one thing and they must just die instead of adapt?
Mom!!! Xbox cheated cause they changed their plans, it just sounds so stupid but that is the tone coming off the over reactions to plan adjustments. And when Sony does it then its AOK
It’s because the gaming industry and gaming media are heavily favored towards Sony and Nintendo. It’s why I have said for years that it simply doesn’t matter what Microsoft does or doesn’t do in regards to Xbox. They will never ever win these people over which is why they should either do what Nick says and lock it all down OR just release the games everywhere and get more revenue and profit for every release since the vast majority of players on other platforms aren’t going to buy an Xbox.
People have a PC, they can play there if they don’t want to buy an Xbox, right ? Or Cloud even ? They don’t force you to buy an Xbox to play Xbox games, that’s the beauty of it, people should know that by now.
Wait, who do you mean by people? Because casuals don’t have a PC or people looking for more affordable options, most people will still game on console and Xbox is totally giving up on that market and on any hope of having a strong install base in consoles next gen.
You said people won’t buy Xbox for one game and you’re right, but I see no one mention PC or Cloud as an option. That’s not an attack, that’s just an observation.
Who is “most people”? The number of gamers on PC is comparable to all three consoles combined and mobile dwafs them. The console market gave up on itself. The decisions that have been made created walled gardens and a very stagnant customer base which is stable and willing to spend more and more, but also isn’t growing and hasn’t grown for like a decade overall. Individual console generation hardware sales haven’t grown for decades and all three platforms (Nintendo and Sony more so) have lost tens of millions of sales compared to their peak generations.
I think it’s Xbox’s para social relationship with gamers mixed with the bias and tribalism. Xbox is the only console with free cloud saves but no one cares. Not only that but people are demanding Xbox gets rid of the multiplayer pay wall for paid. This isn’t being asked for on Playstation or Nintendo. Xbox is the only platform with dedicated backwards compatibility, but no one cares. Instead people demand more and more and insist on being terrified that Xbox will nuke their libraries when it’s Playstation and Nintendo with the history of not caring about game preservation.
Xbox exists in this state where nothing they do is ever enough and everything they do is constantly wrong and losing. Their gamers online demand more from them, and I think all of us (myself included) feel closer to Xbox & the Xbox teams than Playstation or Nintendo fans. Xbox posts a lot and shares updates a LOT. That’s not necessarily a good think. It does create a sense of entitlement among fans and it also leads to inconsistent messaging because in the business world everything is always changing.
I maintain that the best thing Xbox can do is shut up. Namely Xbox executives can should shut up. They can and should still be vocal on social media with all the memes and fun quirks and what not. But official updates should only come from the official Xbox branded account. We should not under any circumstances have the CEO of Xbox come out to respond to random tweets online. That only adds legitimacy to rumors and makes Xbox look weaker. Xbox needs to just do what they’ll do without apologizing for it or justifying it. We already know that if a game is getting ported it’s to make the game sell more. You don’t have to tell us that. Xbox officially announced Helix as a gaming console, executives don’t need to clarify that in response to grifters on the internet. The logo gate nonsense was so dumb. Who tf actually cares about logos appearing or not appearing? What does that matter? Also why is the person in charge of video game content saying one thing in a tweet and then the CEO of Xbox undermining them and posting a less clear stance with a different tweet? It’s the vague, “We hear you.” messaging that puts Xbox in this position. No one engages with Nintendo and Playstation execs online screaming about every little decision and playing armchair CEO (when they aren’t even armchair shareholders).
