Xbox 2025 Layoff Thread (crazy we need one...)

And there’s the biggest hype ever coming from the PlayStation community, them saying it’s the most beautiful game ever, using photo mode.

And yet, only the true Kojima fans seem to care. I feel like many tried the first game but didn’t like it that much.

And I say that as someone who ignored the game for a long time but had a revelation when I finally played it.

To be fair I said most of us could run Xbox. I wasn’t trying to claim to be a genius. Nevertheless there is a middle ground of being locked into the zeitgeist versus thinking you are intellectually superior with little Videogame knowledge to back it up. Personally I think leadership lacks decisiveness and gamers lack imagination .

Yep despite having numerous diehard PlayStation fans on my friends list, a quick check of the PS app shows none have started DS2 yet, despite most of them completing the first one.

Ridiculous game prices (ironic as many of them hate Game Pass) I think mean only true must play games get bought at release - everyone else has too much to play.

Only people I’ve seen playing it are gaming media - I’m sure many will get round to it, but given so much to play I bet most will be waiting for a discount

Gamepass is bad, you have to buy the games to be a true gamer!

(goes to ignore all games and wait for deep discount 90% off sales before buying) See, I’m supporting the devs!!!

The industry is in a fucked up place right now to be honest, these compressions are a result of that. Quality doesn’t amount to any sales anymore unfortunately.

Has anyone said Play Anywhere is bad?

(The human impact of these layoffs is extraordinary and there should be a far better system to protect workers and their jobs. Further, anyones feelings about them here are valid).

These cancellations seem pretty logical (if cold) to me. 2 very expensive and unreleased service games. 1 turbulent and expensive studio. 1 recently flopped and delayed studio.

Still awful.

Probably, I can likely get one to say “you should buy it twice, once on console and once on PC to support the devs!”

The level of hatred for anything Xbox does can be insane lol

Who is the recently flopped and delayed studio?

Anyone saying ‘Xbox should’ or ‘why don’t they just’ has no bloody idea. Gamers have the incredible ability to treat complex projects as if they’re just stacking Lego = ??? = Profit!

Anyone saying Xbox has no games is deluded and caught in hype/disaster chat that we should all actively reject.

Anyone thinking this is some necessary shit whilst MS sit on a bank of gazillions can also jog on.

Reading all the hot takes posted online and in articles, apparently Xbox has delivered no games in the last few years. Just reading that business article or whatever saying Halo and Starfield were sub par and that MS had fumbled real bad. Like, aren’t we getting 12 first party games this year or something or am I just crazy?

Yeah while we can see some of the logic of the cancellations, the idea that they need to lay off people rather than setting them to work on new projects is never going to be truly necessary - it’s purely theatrics to please shareholders at the expense of hard working people with families to feed

Turn 10 had repeated delays on FM and it didnt hit like they wanted. (Still immoral cuts).

Exactly. You can’t convince me these workers couldn’t just work on something else. Firing them seems completely unnecessary.

Am I going looney, I could have sworn I saw a post about PD last year was pre-rendered and it was Kotaku that said it. I know I saw it and people were like “They got laid off, right? Good riddance.” Am I dreaming?

Oh I thought you was referring just the cancelled games.

Game pass is the last remaining thing I have that’s active with Microsoft. After it lapses next year, I am done. I am at peace.

That’s fair, Game Pass is definitely my main reason for sticking with Microsoft, things I will do is start cutting out other parts of their business I use (Outlook, Edge).

It’s bad of course, because you are not giving the dev twice the money. Shame on you for liking consumer friendly practices!
