Xbox Acquisition |OT| - So We’re Back to Making Lists, Huh?

I will say they need Efficient studio that can work on two games at the same time

I think they do need some more IP in certain areas. For instance they could really use a big time established JRPG. Lost Odyssey is good but it won’t bring a ton of people to the ecosystem. On the other hand, imagine if they owned Persona or Dragon Quest or Monster Hunter, those would bring people to the ecosystem. There’s others that they definitely are missing a big name from in their portfolio.

Obsidian?

I think people are getting thier Hope’s up about MS in Japan. I honestly cant see them acquiring anything in the region.

there is nothing wrong with more studios like Obsidian

Lol they’re one of those studios working on like 4 projects at the same time. Avowed, TOW stuff, Grounded and Josh Sawyer’s Project Missouri.

Xbox already has these kinds of studios

Ninja Theory with Mara, HB2, Bleeding Edge

343 with MCC and Halo Infinite

Playground with Forza and Fable

And this isn’t even including Bethesda now lol

Now all I want is Coalition to do another project alongside Gears. If the rumors are true about them helping out with Initiative’s game, that would be super cool.

Anyone else still in shock with Zenimax purchase? MS could have bought 30 Insomniacs with that money. Let that sink in.

Most of the value was the IP. Insomniac was only that “Cheap” because the only ip they really owned was sunset overdrive

Mainly in shock that people keep expecting an equally large acquisition soon.

Yep now they have tons of single player ip to play with

yeah but that wouldn’t have gotten them Fallout Shelter

I never expected such a large acquisition, no. I thought 4 bln for WB was a possibility but that it was kinda borderline on what they’d be willing to go for.

Before all that I mainly just expected 1-2 smaller studios then that would be it for expansion.

Between Asobo, Arkane and possibly Dontnod, MS could really lockdown France for game development

Yes it’s massive game changer. The tech, the talent and the IPs are incredible. When I step back and think about it, in terms of western single player games, not a better mix of talent and IP from a 3rd party publisher IMO.

They don’t own two of those three, haha.

Even if they did, there’s also:

  • Amplitude (Endless Space/Legend/Humankind)
  • Cyanide (Styx, Call of Cthulhu)
  • Quantic Dream (le david cage)
  • Eugen Systems (Steel Division et al)
  • Spiders (Greedfall, The Technomancer)
  • Tons of small tiny companies nobody has ever heard of who have made 1 game like Big Bad Wolf

Then for larger companies there’s Focus Home Interactive, Nacon Interactive (formerly Big Ben), and the 500 pound gorilla in the room, Ubisoft, which employs approx 25% of the nation of France. The French industry is actually surprisingly large.
