Has Tencent bought an American company yet? Or only invest in them? I know the government is debating on making them sell off their investments in Epic and Riot. I hope they make them sell personally.

I get that you don’t care about Japanese games and nothing can or will change that but is that “weirdo”, “creep” and “pervert” stuff really necessary? do you think that it adds anything worthwhile to the discussion besides putting stupid labels on people that are judged by how much they like Devil May Cry or not? especially in a very positive and welcoming community far from the usual toxic shit crap like this is totally out of place don’t you think?

btw I’ve never seen anyone calling the DMC or Dragon’s Dogma fans weirdos.

This.

Yes, the CryEngine is often overlooked here but there are still some things that the engine does that no other middleware does, and if given the opportunity to optimize for only two platforms (PC and Xbox), the engineers there could work wonders.

I wouldn’t take such attitudes from any of this news… and I definitely wouldn’t shit on some of the sources with overwhelmingly positive track records.

That is correct, and for that reason alone I would be more than willing to bet EU would force Crytek to sell to a different bidder (Microsoft had a similar situation with the last administration). Tencent is essentially an arm of the CCP so their “end goal” aside from jumping into a booming market to amass more and more capital, is to collect data. Data attributed to individuals like gaming does is of immense value to the CCP Intel operations; people are quick to forget what happened with Cambridge Analytica and Facebook… well imagine if that were a totalitarian regime trying to twist narratives and spread global propaganda…

Was Crytek always “a target”?

I don’t know if you could divulge that information, but it would be interesting to know.

I have some musings regarding Microsoft and China, both of them never had much of beef, Bing and Windows have censored versions there while even Google refuses to create a censored version of the search (at one point the higher staff tried to make it and employees took it down), but I think they might be not considering them as a trustable market, PRC has been increasingly hostile and demanding on companies and Phil and Matt declarations on “buying or creating studios in Africa, India and South America” can be a very indicative that they know they can be the pioneers there on 1st Party and also that Gamepass is rising on these regions, which with few exceptions, have been always Sony dominated. I’ve been reading more and more cases where countries who never gave attention to Xbox are looking now because of the service. And I would go further, they may be looking also on SEA countries and Mexico.

Hello guys,

long time lurker here

Greetings from Germany!

I personally think Crytek would be a great addition, if they would change the management.

I wrote a short summary of my thoughts in the gamingleaks subreddit just going to copy paste it in here.

"I think Microsoft is pretty interested they are not only looking for workforce, they want IP and tech. Crytek would come with both.

Other studios inside XGS that use the Cryengine could technically benefit a lot for example Arkane Lyon/Austin.

In addition it could close a hole in the lineup with a Ryse sequel."

Not a native speaker so I hope you understand what I’m trying to say.

Wasn’t the problem with a Crytek acquisition always the leadership? I think I remember the leadership issue coming up before.

Finally decided to sign up here after lurking for weeks, hope you’re all ready for my hot takes

Serious question, do the people here want MS to buy Crytek because of actual worth or because “yay, a new acquisition”

For 300+ million MS could buy so much better talent and IP than bloody crytek, a company that hasnt produced much more than mediocre at best content for over a decade and as for their engine, im sure MS wouldnt say no to having more engines at their disposal but I imagine they are doing just fine with FTech, Unreal and friggin IDTech

As for the people asking for them to be bought for a potential Ryse 2

The problems were leadership, middle management issues and not bothering to pay their employees. No biggie! lol. A lot the original engine people left for either ID Tech or Star Citizen / Cloud Imperium Games.

Crytek is as good as sold or invested in by Tencent. The EU or German government aren’t going to step in to stop a CCP control company from purchase them.

The prices are most likely very inflated at the moment, so I don’t think 300 million in the current market is that high including IP + Tech.

I personally think Ryse wasn’t that far off from being a good game. If they are able to implement a better combat system (get some inspiration from God of War) and get some enemy/level variety in there you would have a great sequel.

Also I want them to help fix the input delay in Arkanes games. Seriously fuck that! Dishonered 2 feels terrible.

Which Studio would you suggest for 300 million?

Welcome to the newcomers !
