Xbox Acquisition |OT2| Something, Something, Snowball Effect

The only way the gaming industry gets close to a monopoly would be if Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo were to acquire Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo.

In other words, the big three would have to become the big two and even then, it being a monopoly is still debatable.

I only mention 300+ million because thats what Tencent are rumored to be paying

Assuming MS will have to pay a similar amount to that or possibly more, thats a crazy amount of money that could be used to buy a whole bunch of indie studios or fund sequels to much better IPs that they actually own like, I dont know, a goddamn KI sequel and use that money to build a small to medium sized fighting game studio or some Japanese studios to help diversify their content and plug more genres that they may be missing

Fighting games and Japanese games are two big pieces of the puzzle that is currently missing in the first party arsenal and those are much more valuable in terms of diverification than anything Crytek can provide imo, even assuming Crytek could make something decent which I really dont have much faith in at this point

Yep for MS is more valuable bidding for Netherealm or SEGA before Crytek

My guess is that Microsoft would look at Crytek as how EA looks at DICE, being both the developer and tech provider for the whole company, having CryEngine means that they have their own complete suite and could drop Unreal Engine, but they have the wizards at Id which wonders me that they could put Id Tech back into the licensing business with a developed suite, no need for a new engine. Unless their plan is to have Crytek as the Xbox’s ICE Team with an original game development side.

First off, welcome to the community, we’re happy to have you!

Secondly… you’re already getting on my good side  Arkane and several of the teams at XGS have familiarity with CryEngine, among all the other reasons I would argue they’re beneficial

Sega would be at least 10 times more and NR+MK at least 4 times more.

One is a public company, that would take quite some time to work out a deal and the other one is probably only available after the merger.

Money isn’t that big of a factor for Microsoft an acquisition of Crytek wouldn’t rule out future deals for the ones you listed.

But what has this to do with Crytek?

I am surprised when some people say Microsoft should focus on other studios instead of Crytek

I mean come on guys Microsoft is not normal company and they can do both and maybe more at once :joy:

I’m all for creating teams and strengthening partnerships, but this would take years with a higher chance of failing.

Crytek has already a rumored sequel for Ryse in the making. And they could help making the games from Arkane not only be the best, but also the prettiest immersive Sims on the market, so they would get the recognition they deserve anyway.

But we can agree on one thing, Xbox needs more first party content from Japan.

I recommend everyone who doesn’t agree with this to play The Evil within 2!

Absolutely! Microsofts pockets are deep, the M&A Team got staffed up and Satya is all in.

Today they talked about that they could imagine owning several big studios, outside the usual development hubs.

There is for sure a lot in the coming, but these things take time.

I didn’t say “creep” or “pervert” though… Interesting that you jumped to that.

I actually enjoyed DMC V, it was fun in a goofy way. You might even say it was a bit… weird. Neither did I say that I didn’t care about Japanese games (you really like to put words in my mouth huh?), I said it was overhyped. I liked Yakuza 0 too, and oh that was weird af. I’m not generalizing everything to ever come out of Japan.

How is it toxic? Because I think a lot of anime is crap? I’m not saying you or anyone else is crap for liking it, I’m stating an opinion on how I find other things more interesting and exciting.

I’m indifferent on a crytek acquisition. Don’t really care that much if it happens or not.

Someones going to buy them eventually. Might as well be Xbox. At least we’ll get Ryse 2.

I doubt it would be a long list and certainly not many Microsoft hasn’t already approached.

Microsoft would be interested as well because of the military contracts surely?

Damn many people don’t seem to like Crytek as much as some others. Just because of what they have done with that Engine alone would make me interested as a buyer lol

It’s not that special of an engine now a days. Can it run Crysis isn’t something widely said now a days. Also I think State of Decay was originally in the Crytek engine but it was buggy as heck. All that being said, the Crytek engine just couldn’t compete with Unreal and Unity. Amazon’s LumberYard Engine is Crytek plus Double Helix’s original KI engine mashed together and that isn’t picking up people either.

MS has like 5 engines internally I think they should probably just for a team inside to make one universal ID engine and another for larger projects based of the Creation engine.

I want Ryse 2 so I’m on board!

State of Decay 1 was buggy as heck because it had tiny budget and team at the time. Amazon’s lumberyard hasn’t picked up because there was a massive lawsuit with Crytek over it lol.

Look how good Prey looked and how smooth it played. Hell look at the Crysis remasters and some of the tech they are pulling off in that still.

Ryse son of rome on Xbox one is one of the best looking games of last gen and it came out in 2013 and was changed from a Kinect game in the end of 2011.
