Microsoft:

…$301m

One talking point I wish would go away is they “MS should focus company A instead of company B” stuff.

There is one reply for this: 2.12 Trillion.

People still believe that Netherrealm and TT are not for sale … and they do not even understand that Discovery and AT&T share a debt of 60 billion and thier argument is that they will keep them when they see “the huge numbers generated by these studies” …

Personally, I would much rather see Microsoft acquire the Ryse IP and that’s it. Crytek isn’t worth what they once were their CryEngine is nowhere near as popular or as good as Unreal Engine and majority of development studios use their own engine. Don’t see any value in Crytek with the exception of the Ryse IP.

What exactly do you get with the Ryse IP? It doesn’t have any name recognition. A new IP in a similar setting would be a better move IMO.

Completely agreed, especially when you consider the fact that they were willing to spend at least $30 billion on Discord and TikTok last year. Gaming publishers by contrast are considerably cheaper.

A sequel to a new IP from last generation that is one of many that Microsoft passed on or couldn’t come to an agreement for a sequel would be a great move because it would show that no IP is dead and there could always be a sequel. I really enjoyed the game and would love a sequel. Plus, I can’t imagine the IP costing all that much to acquire.

What do you think the cost would be to acquire all of WB Interactive and the entirety of the DC license from AT&T?

12-14 billions

Id do with the setting again but as something else entirely. Ryse was just a nice polished technical demo with mediocre everything else.

You dont need to acquire Crytek for a roman game and one at that that has zero recognition.

Yep, there’s no reason to choose anything, they’ll buy anything that wants to sell and join XGS.
It’s more about devs wanting to be a part of MS and Xbox than spending money.

I enjoyed the game too, but it is an IP that has nothing unique about it and was almost universally regarded as a bad game until recently.

Are there really that many fans of the game or is it just something that people can point to to meet the (underserved on Xbox) third person cinematic action adventure game genre?

  1. I think that’s probably high.
  2. There’s no reason to acquire the WB catalogue, I don’t think. If it’s REALLY important to you to have Rocksteady make another Batman game and NRS make another Injustice game, you could acquire those limited rights for a relatively nominal fee. Or you could negotiate the rights on a per-title basis. Look, if Playstation could license Spiderman, none of the WB IP is so precious that MS couldn’t make a deal with WB on an as-needed basis.

If it’s that cheap, Microsoft should have that deal done already. Give AT&T $20B, get it done and there you go!!! Seriously, that’s a steal.

Majority of IP’s have nothing unique about them but yet, there’s still sequels and eventually become long term franchises. I know majority regarded it as a bad game. I rated it a 7/10 but the visuals are still top tier almost 8 years later and the story/characters were great in my opinion. Gameplay/combat was lacking but it was originally an Xbox 360/Kinect game so I can understand why that was the case. I personally really enjoyed the game, love the setting and would love to see a sequel or a Ryse 2 that takes place in a different time period with different characters, etc. Either way is fine by me.

I think there’s a cult following of fans that if done right, game would do pretty well in my opinion. I see Ryse as the same as Sony’s The Order 1886. A lot of gameplay/combat issues even though the shooting mechanics and cover system was great in The Order, the boss fights were bad, the fights against the three werewolves were bad and there were too many QTE’s. Very similar to Ryse. Both games though had a great story and characters, excellent world, time period, visuals, atmosphere, etc. to where there’s a lot to build on.

As for wanting it to meet the third person cinematic action adventure genre, I have wanted a sequel since before 2017 so outside of Uncharted, Sony’s cinematic action adventure games weren’t really a thing yet outside of Naughty Dog. I played Ryse in 2016 and really enjoyed it. Wanted a sequel then and still want a sequel now.

If that Crytek leak a while back is accurate which thus far, it has been, I should be getting Ryse Next at some point this generation either way so I should be a happy camper!!! Just a matter of time.

Oh my god, it just hit me that Ryse is almost 8 years old at this point.

We need a Ryse 2 Ghost of Sparta.
