Xbox Acquisition |OT4| It's Acquisition Season for Xbox with $69 Billion deal, NICE!

This is how you set yourself up for disappointment. Arbitrary and meaningless benchmarks for success.

FWIW, there is something wrong. A shortage of silicon.

So to be clear, you actually believe that PS Now would overtake Game Pass in subs ‘overnight’ if they threw a few more servers at it?

MS had bunch of new games (big and small) added this year to the service, it has Halo and FH5 coming this year, it launched XCloud in various regions etc. etc. It had 18m last year without all of that. They sold more consoles than they had last year for example.

Anyway, I stated before I give 2023 end as my deadline to see what MS will achieve.

Also we are kinda off topic.

“Yeah leave the ones that bring millions of people, mindshare and publicity behind, xbox doesnt need those”

I stated that if Sony invested more in PS Now (and yes it includes launching it in more regions and at least upgrading the servers), it would already had more subscribers than now. But if it invested more (like launching their own games there), they would overtake Game Pass.

MS throws a lot of resources into Game Pass, if Sony were to throw that amount they would have more subscribers than Game Pass has now.

Anyway, we are off topic.

I disagree. Especially now, with Microsoft owning bethesda, meaning there games go straight to game pass, PS Now would not pass up game pass. Game Pass has far more benefits and immensely better infrastructure.

Here is the argument I made previously regarding numbers:

To go from 18m in January to 30m by end-Sept is 12m in nine months – a growth rate of 1.3m new subs each month.

That’s the even higher than extraordinary growth rate we saw between Sept 2020 (15m) and Jan 2021 (18m) of 0.75m per month.

During that period we had the launch of new consoles, and the holiday period. All logic says between Sept and Jan should be the highest growth period of any year by far, so I find it hard to believe that this rate increased through the year – especially in a year when hardware has been constrained, and even on the PC side it’s kind of impossible to build for a reasonable price at the moment, and that consoles launched in that period in 2020/21.

I would think something like 25m by the end of 2021 would be believable.

EDIT:

Just read your post fully, and you are right we are off topic. Will agree to disagree.

That’s why I said “if Sony invested more in PS Now”. I am not asking PS Now (in its current form) compete with Game Pass right now.

oh noes, what will happen if MS doesn’t achieve your deadline :fearful:

The gamepass thread would have been a better fit for these conversations.

Or even the PS thread.

Acquire IOI and Turtle Rock and Crytek then they can be done with shooters for a while and focus on adding WB. Back on track

This thread is amazing at how it ebbs and flows.

The mood of the day dictates the nature of the discussion.

  • Xbox buys Bethesda - they can buy everything under the sun

  • discussions in between – they can buy a few studios here and there

  • Gamepsss results not meeting internal targets – they have Bethesda, they don’t need to buy anyone else. Show proof that the Beth acquisition was successful and then acquire.

Almost gives me the feeling that people making strategy plans should just close their business canvases and do impulsive tactical decisions.

I feel like each time some new third party game launches in Game Pass, people want MS to buy the studio.

Well, forums are not different from the elderly sitting outside and discussing news and neighbors. So everything is pretty reactive.

There was certainly a period where people assumed that MS can purchase anything. But now, at best we can expect some small studio  There is still hope that MS will buy something by the end of the year…Though hope dies last lol

Chuckie - stay optimistic, bud. LOL

That last line was quite a downer.

we went from Take two to turtle rock and white owl with some occasional hope for WB without licenses . :phil_lmao:

EA up next

Well, in English I presume the idiom is "Hope springs eternal " which sounds more positive.
