Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

Ubisoft is already mostly live service oriented. Even their single player games have a live service support model :man_shrugging:

I agree.

Ubisoft just seems like they have little direction atm, and is just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks, which is not how to run any company never mind one that turns over €1.6 billion a year.

I doubt MS or Sony will even consider Ubisoft. That’s what 20k+ employees ? 10k for ABK is already a lot. 20k just for Ubi is a bit absurd.

And they are bleeding staff and underpay them too. Not really healthy.

Ubisoft+ in Game Pass would be neat though.

Not sure Ubisoft would be worth it.

I read this some days ago and I think it’s a good analysis:

It would be very difficult to justify a Ubisoft purchase. They have several times lower revenue than competing large publishers. As a comparison, they had about 1.6b revenue in 2020. ATVI had 8b. Electronic Arts had 5.5b.

The big challenge here is that they have double the employees of ATVI and EA. This makes the purchase sound quite unattractive. Double the employees, for several times lower revenue is a very hard sell.

I think that’s more on the work environment itself + the limited creative freedom

I’m always baffled by the number of people at Ubisoft. That’s like 60 the coalition’s.

I know they do most in-house with very little outsourcing, but it still seems like they are managed very bad if you look at the output.

yeah but the price is lower though… there is a lot of ways you can shape up UBI if you control them, anyway i’m not saying MS would get them.

They have one of the best outputs in AAA considering they release multiplatform huge open world games in 3 year dev cycles

But they do seem to have problems with getting new ideas to fruition so that might count as mismanagement I guess

Do they though?

Yes, who else makes multiplatform AAA open world games that huge in 3 years? Efficiency and output wise, it’s admirable. Creatively, less so.

You mean doing the same game over and over again but with a different color palette?

It’s not that easy. Yes very formulaic games but there’s still considerable changes each game, + completely new worlds, environments, stories and characters :man_shrugging: you don’t have to like it but it’s an impressive output cadence

I don’t think so to be honest.

Sony is kind of overtaking them in this department.

  • Spiderman

  • Spiderman: Miles Morales

  • Days Gone

  • Horizon: Zero Dawn

  • Horizon: Forbidden West

These are all Ubisoft-esque games. None of them are as big AC: Valhalla, but they don’t need to be.

i think they might be good fit for amazon.

Incomparable, completely different IP and studio structure and also not multiplatform

So I just can compare Ubisoft to…Ubisoft?

Any other suggestions?

Not gonna lie, a Double Fine Hobbit game would be dope. But let’s just pretend it isn’t based on the movies.

All options but you can’t forget Amazon. Ubisoft games would be the kick in the butt Luna needs to go mainstream.
