Xbox Acquisition |OT5| Talking Exclusively About Xbox Acquisitions

Ubisoft would be great if when bought the devs would be able to use the ip’s in the way they wanted rather than the same open world type games over and over

Dumb Question:

Was reading something for Hoag’s Law that says there might need to be concessions or that the acquisition might not go through unscatched

What could that mean in realistic terms? Does Microsoft would need to pay a penalty? Might have to swear to the government to keep games multiplat?

No

I’d argue SEGA fits into the third person action with Yakuza and Judgment.

Also, for fighting, they do have the Virtua Fighter folks.

You ain’t dropping the Hedgehog that easy!:stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

From what I understood, depending on how much of an impact losing CoD would do to PlayStation’s financials they might have to make that multiplatform, buts it’s not guaranteed to be an issue either.

Also depends if their are other angles to this acquisition we’re not thinking of that might be considered an “unfair advantage”, but I can’t think of any.

Sorry :man_shrugging:… To also be fair, I’m not saying every game under a JP publisher acquisiton should be on Nintendo. Resident Evil, Yakuza, Final Fantasy? Xbox exclusive. Niche games like Etrian Odyssey (Atlus), Ace Attorney (Capcom), Team Asano (Square) stuff (Bravely for example) that aren’t even going to come close to using Xbox’s power and have massive fanbases on Nintendo? Switch and Xbox. There will be a severe fanbase impact here from Japan that I’m not sure the West will make up for, and I want those series to continue. A bonus here is that it would absolutely help with the popularity of JRPGs and other niche JP on Xbox in the West without pissing off the Japanese fanbase who are proven by now to not ever be interested in buying an Xbox console.

If not Nintendo “releases”, then this is where I would finally start to actually agree that Xcloud on Switch would be good (I currently don’t think it should be but this would change that)

Nothing will happen.

Why would this need concessions over any other case??

He’s just explaining normal things that can happen. Doesn’t mean they will.

I’d also point out we’ve already heard Microsoft voluntarily make a concession to keep games on Playstation.

I was just wondering what concessions usually mean in a situation like this…

Nvidia says they’ll make concessions to the EU over the ARM deal, so I wondered…

What the hell are concessions

I think they’re things you acquire at sporting events.

Not helping with a legitimate question.

Like Disney having to give up certain parts of Fox in order to finish the deal.

I forget if they had to give up some of the ESPN stuff or if it was just Fox Sports for that part of it.

Edit: It was just the Fox Sports part. Here’s an article.

Interesting. Goodness forbid Microsoft has to give concessions, I wonder what they would be?

No more Taco bell promotions.

Phil better have kept the receipt.

I’m not sure if this fits in this thread or not, but it could deal with potentially why Microsoft hasn’t bought Japanese developers.

This is a thread about how because policies that Microsoft put in place is the reason games skip Xbox consoles.

I’m not sure how to take this and I hope the policy that games can’t come later to the Xbox brand of systems isn’t the reason why we see less Japanese games on Xbox consoles.

FWIR, for the US it was only the RSN, regional sports networks, like Fox Sports Ohio. They were sold to Sinclair for $10 Billion, who then sold naming rights to recoop some costs from spending too much for it, so they are now known as Bally Sports. It was also required for approval of Brazil and Mexico to divest in Fox Sports.

Thanks for sharing.

The concession is gimme some of that cash money :money_mouth_face: :money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face::money_mouth_face:

I always wondered why it was called “Bally” sports. I find the fact that they sold naming rights to their channels to be endlessly amusing.
