Regarding Ubi it would make sense for Amazon to go after them. Now it is their best chance.
I think that if Platinum wants to sell Microsoft should take it seriously and try aquire them. They should be doing so for everyone who express an interest to sell, because growing their work force and the type of games they can build would only be a positive for Xbox and game pass. And if no Japanese publisher is looking to sell, buy smaller studios to create their own, would show Microsofts dedication to gaming in Japan.
But as others have mentioned they shouldn’t just focus on Japan, they should try to do the same with every market they’re interested in breaking into. Because the local support is what’s going to be get people on Xbox and game pass above every else.
buying Ubisoft wouldn’t solve Xbox “content problem” in Japan/Asia
As many as there are grains of sand!!!
I don’t think Microsoft want to buy Ubi either. Ideal case scenario is EA buying Ubi as then we will get more games on GamePass
It is insanely good fit for Amazon though
Microsoft will go after Japan. Capcom, Sega.
I think the plan is to keep western game development away from Amazon or Google. So i think they will have Take Two and maybe EA under one roof.
Edit. More so NA game dev
Facebook corp too.
Regarding Facebook I am not sure. But Amazon has Luna and already has Ubisoft channel there
Buying Ubisoft isn’t something that Xbox needs for any region.
ABK is clearly superior in every way as an acquisition and they’re going to have their hands full with integrating all those employees, changing the culture, replacing leadership, reviving IPs, bringing Blizzard back to the top of the prestigious developer echelon, fostering creativity, I mean the list goes on and on.
Ubisoft gives double the employees ABK has (which is an issue itself), less IPs (albiet still some big IPs), hemorrhaged talent and another huge scandal to deal with. The best thing Microsoft could get out of talks with Ubisoft is the Splinter Cell IP and giving it to The Coalition where it belongs, which will obviously never happen.
Microsoft needs to focus on individual studios they’re already working with/have worked with:
- Avalanche
- Asobo
- Crystal Dynamics (somehow)
- Certain Affinity
- Platinum (they were interested in them at some point…) Etc.
Edit: How can I forget IOI? They should also be a priority.
They also need to address the Japan/Asia situation, which hopefully we hear about within the next year.
I would prefer EA go after Ubisoft (if they have the capital)
I really don’t trust Amazon, if they decide gaming/Luna isn’t a thing anymore they will just close them down.
Barf, can’t believe there’s a worse option than amazon in this instance. Merging with EA or being bought up by Embracer might be the best case scenario here.
Ubi aggressively fought off a buy out attempt just recently. It seems they don’t want to be bought
That is true. Though if other company acquires a publisher, it will simplify Microsoft future acquisitions even more.
EA would of course be nice due to Gamepass
Guess you missed the thing that spurred this whole conversation….
To be fair in Ubisoft’s case they were asked specifically about it and they answered. It doesn’t inherently mean anything more than that.
Just seeing the comments now. I mean every publisher would listen to all offers of course
You’re missing the point; this is a far cry from the stance from the family even two years ago, and more importantly, any of the potential bidders wouldn’t be participating in a hostile takeover. This is a welcome sign to buyers if there ever was one, and doesn’t align with their past statements or the one you just made.
That ATVI deal changed a lot. A generational event.
The stance has definitely softened that I agree, its whether anyone is willing to enter negotiations with this family, given how difficult they are.
Now that is an assessment I can agree upon. That said… after Activision, I guess anything is possible. We all, myself included, thought they’d distance themselves from toxic orgs but here we are ![]()
