Doesn’t validate the claim they got outbid.
It could have been many reasons.
- Randy
- existing publishing agreement with 2K
- Multiplatform
- audit
- ongoing support for the Movie/Series initiative
I am pretty sure it was Randy 100%. Microsoft is concerned about their image.
Yea definitely randy
Stop spreading false information, Embracer didn’t “outbid” Xbox, just like Sony didn’t outbid Microsoft/Xbox on Bungie, according to every source of info we have Xbox required Pitchford to be gone as part of the deal, and when that didn’t happen they walked away. Same as Bungie.
Jez specifically discussed this element and the article you provided makes a leap that doesn’t match what we know from said sources: correlation is not equal to causation.
Brad Sam’s also mentioned at that time that there were 3 studios that were being approached by multiple companies for aquistion gearbox being one of them I wonder who the other two are.
Randy Pitchford is the next Bobby Kotick.

Microsoft were not outbid… They didn’t want a deal with that ****!
Randy would be a great MS mascot, right next to Todd Howard
There’s something I’ve been wandering around
The ABK deal happened in november right? (Close doors) And it was something that come from nowhere and an opportunity Satya and Phil could not let pass.
Do we think they made more movements last year between april-november or they “calmed” down a bit after the zenimax deal closed?
Well, I think Bungie was one of those negotiations no? Maybe there are/were some other talks too. We just don’t know - case of ATVI was relatively rare in a lot of ways.
no they are definitely in talks with other companies and publisher, who IDK but bungie is rumoured to be one and WB games was rumoured to be another before they pulled out.
Also weren’t there those rumours of MS approaching Japanese companies granted no names were given
Because of what monetising '76?
Do me a favour and search up both Randy Pitchford and Yves Guillemot (Ubisoft).
Both of them will be the next Kotick its just a matter of time.
it was a joke lol
Oh yeah, now that we know the condition and all of the thing the askwd for that price no wonder why they decide to leave that thing alone.
Hope the ABK deal closes fast to see their next movements!
Do us a favor and leave those kinds of comparisons (supposed “jokes”) at the door. It belittles the experiences of those abused.
I wouldn’t be shocked if they were talking to someone before activision seeing how that played out, I am not sure who but I would imagine they didn’t drop discussions so unlike others I am not writing off another acquisition before the activision deal is done granted I also dom’t expect it.
If I had to take a guess on who though, I would say either EA, maybe WB games (probably not for all the studios but maybe a studio or 2 like NRS and TT games) or someone from Japan (Capcom, Square Enix and SEGA are probably the best bets). I would say take 2 and Ubisoft as well if it wasn’t for the fact Take 2 is in the proccess of acquiring Zynga which takes them off the table until that goes though and Ubisofts recent comments making it sound like they haven’t been approached yet.
Maybe they could pay From Software the extra £3 it would cost them to put in an easy mode.
With Guardians coming to Game Pass similar to how Avengers came to Game Pass because Square was disappointed with both in term of sells, I think that MS should get Eidos to make a first party game like Crystal Dynamics is right now and eventually acquire both.
