Xbox Game Pass |OT| Our Backlogs Are Doomed

I’m considering doing this for some games like Outer Worlds that’ll presumably be on Game Pass forever. More likely I’ll wait for a sale on a total package.

If the Outer Worlds were to leave Game Pass you’d go ahead and buy the game right? (assuming you already have the DLC)

Basically I don’t think people are buying DLC for games on Game Pass where they wouldn’t have bought it if they owned the game outright.

It honestly depends. A year ago, I would have told you absolutely not, but the model has really changed how I see game ownership.

In this particular instance, I enjoyed the game without paying for it specifically, and would like to see the extra content. It’s not the type of game I would really want to replay any time soon, so I would be okay with “losing access” as long as I got to play the DLC to my heart’s content. Then I could mentally put the game away and not feel like I missed out on anything. That doesn’t rule out buying it in the future at a bargain, though for the same reason that I went out of my way to re-buy all the Fallout games on Xbox even though I don’t especially want to do a full playthrough.

If the season pass were like ten bucks instead of $22.50, I might have pulled the trigger while the system and story was still fresh in my mind. Given that I didn’t spend money on the main game, 22.50 isn’t a huge price to pay for the total package, but I don’t have a ton of money to throw around, and I have tons of other stuff to play as it is.

I’m not sure that is right. I think for Outriders I heard a lot of ppl on podcasts were incliined to buy the dlc because they already had the main campaign on gamepass.

Do we expect Psychonauts to stay on Game Pass permanently by the way? It’s been on my to-play list forever but I’m not in the mood right now. What about Grim Fandango?

Psychonauts 2 yes. Xbox owns the studio, IP and publishing rights.

Grim Fandango, no idea but probably not.

I think he was asking about the first one and in that case Majesco is the publisher.

Ah, nevermind me then.

Makes sense, and yes I was mostly thinking of the game being on sale or cheap to buy.

Maybe. I just don’t see it as a widespread practice, such that the Game Pass sustainability is based on it. If anything Game Pass users are going to skew towards people seeking affordability. I don’t see Game Pass as something designed to attract those users that spend hundreds or thousands on MTX. Which is what people who say “Game Pass will be filled with games as a service games” are implying.

Now after not spending money on the base game so feeling like it isn’t a big deal to drop some money on some DLC is a little different IMO. That is more in line with buying the game after playing the demo. I don’t think Game Pass counts on this either though.

There was really only one part that I got stuck at but it’s not very long. I can’t give an exact time because the counter seems to count the time the game was running in the background and not actual gameplay so my time was like 30 hours but I’d say probably somewhere around 6. It’s well paced and most of the puzzles are straight forward as to what you need to do.

Actually (for NorthAm/Euro customers, IMHO) according to s Xbox interviews, emergent customer behaviours are moving more towards collateral buying - games at a discount with GP, DLCs and other items associated with the game since they perceive this as a saving.

Not completely related to whether the game is a service or not.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is maybe the most addictive game I’ve ever played.

I’ve played for 9 hours and retrieved only one of the artifacts so far lol I’m getting stuck way too many times.

I also didn’t go for every collectible like the cats or the museum artifacts. I pretty much hat mainlined it. There was one part that I was stuck on for awhile that would have only taken a few minutes if I would have just read a sign.

Perfect length for me thanks

Can Microsoft get a big partnership with Embracer Group/THQ Nordic like they have with Paradox Interactive? I want to see more Double A games release day one onto game pass. I want to see more products from THQ Nordic on Game Pass to give us some stuff in between the major releases.

Look what just showed up in the Game Pass app!

It was announced as a Game Pass title back in 2019, so it’s nice to finally see it in the horizon. The $40 price tag was surprising, though.

Wait, is the game’s next-gen patch already live?

Does anyone had the game already installed? Were there any updates today?
